Even if you're fairly moderate you have to acknowledge the radical things that have to be done to restore the status quo ante. We tried going "that was weird" and ignoring the rot and it didn't work.

BREAKING: A few minutes ago, a vehicle of three people was rammed by a truck belonging to federal immigration authorities in Boyle Heights, CA. According to security footage shown to me, they deployed chemical munitions & detained the driver at gunpoint. All are US citizens according to the wife.

The thing about institutions is that is makes narratives very easy to organize around. Rules were broken, they need to be remedied. Just accepting things as arbitrary exercises in power makes it a bit harder to tell the story.
