Say what you will about Oz Perkins, but man he can direct a creepy movie. Keeper is peak Perkins; it's weird, it's unhinged, it's filled with tight uncomfortable cinematography, and it skillfully builds tension throughout its 100-minute runtime. That tension never quite breaks even with the occasional bits of dry humor, which I found funny. There are effective moments that got a good scare out of me. Tatiana Maslany was great in her small role in The Monkey, so it's great to see her take the spotlight here. And man, she dances in that spotlight. This movie is a great relevant satire on conspiracy theories and anti-intellectualism. Which is great because that shit is everywhere and it needs to be called out. Emma Stone acts the house down, and Jesse Plemmons gives an admirable performance as an easily irritable conspiracy theorist who's also quite a dunce. Yorgos Lathimos's direction is steady, builds the tension well, and makes time for some good laughs. But it's also not afraid to put you through absolute whiplash. The movie does drag a bit, I fear, especially in the middle. A few scenes could have used some trimming. But the runtime is worth it as the movie builds up to an absolutely wild third act. I think we got the perfect 2025 movie here”

I haven't been watching his more recent videos, but I respect him for his passion to filmmaking, especially considering his upbringing. And you know what? I find it damn inspiring that after such a long journey, he has finally fulfilled his dream and made a movie. And it's awesome that he got Neon, Mike Flanagan and several of his collaborators onboard. Even though Shelby Oaks isn't the best horror film I've seen, it is dripping with Stuckmann's passion for film as an art form. I have nothing but respect for him. I wish him the best in his filmmaking journey, and I hope he will inspire other aspiring filmmakers to pursue their passion. Now, about the movie itself. The atmosphere is fantastic. Stuckmann's direction is slick, and the eeriness of the abandoned Shelby Oaks oozes through the screen. The VHS videos for the Paranormal Paranoids channel are fantastic, and they make for some great creepy moments.
