Just a reminder that your local library has more than books! Many also have dvds, cds, video games, game systems, internet hot spots, streaming services, ebooks, audio books, park passes, museum passes, and so much more! Maybe it's time for a visit! ❤️📚

I don't know who needs to hear this, but you don't need to justify your reading preferences and choices to anyone. Audiobooks count as reading. Also, you don't have to finish books you don't enjoy. Don't read to impress, read for yourself. Life's too short, love yourself, ok?

Signed, a librarian.

Oxford English Dictionary picked “brain rot’ as its Word of the Year.” Ironically, I found out on social media. corp.oup.com/news/brain-r...

Yes!!! Describing, arranging, and providing access to information is the unique value proposition of libraries, and too many of us are shockingly quick to throw that away for shiny objects and trends.
Cataloging is the basis of all library work, I really believe this. Garbage in, garbage out. Librarians devised systems to thoughtfully describe materials for retrieval. They’re not perfect but giving up the core of our profession for shits and giggles is an absurd move
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

"Aboutness" needs humans. Cataloging needs humans. Libraries need humans.

What would Ranganathan, Dorothy Porter, and Sandy Berman do? Definitely not turn cataloging over to AI.

The DRAMA of the House of Representatives;

WILL Kevin McCarthy be deposed

only for the GOP to flounder around leaderless for two weeks

only to re-elect McCarthy; or some identical white male leader that can barely hold the coalition together for another 3 months?

Or not?

It doesn't matter how loud you can "project". Use the mic! It's not weakness, it's not people questioning whether you can bellow loudly or not. In fact it's not about you at all, except in the sense that you are demonstrating whether you want everyone to be able to hear and understand you - or not.

Teenage girl, Minneapolis, 1953.

I ran across this photo when someone posted it in a FB group recently and I was curious about it, so I tracked it down and now am admiring Jerome Liebling’s collection, “The Minnesota Photographs: 1949–1969,” available at Hennepin County Library.

And the kids aren’t okay, either.

If this is about protecting the children, then why target two of the places that are among the safest for children to be?"
