“Political analysts”

At least, “executive-led” actually means what it means.
"Having all seats contested in [the LegCo] election and the resulting strong performance by independent candidates signal emerging political diversity within Hong Kong’s reformed electoral system, political analysts have said."

‘High-quality democracy’: what does Beijing’s new phrase for Hong Kong mean?
Beijing seeks orderly form of politics with executive-led government working closely with lawmakers not in confrontation with each other, analysts say.

of course Ben Smith's read of the situation is that the Trump administration isn't as corrupt as Paramount officials predicted they'd be and are bristling at claims of favoritism

which doesn't seem based on anything because Trump has repeatedly, openly stated he wants Paramount to win
Finger-pointing in Washington as Paramount goes hostile
The Ellisons “leaned into the stereotypes” of a politicized regulatory process in its aggressive pursuit of for Warner Bros.

30+ movies a year. Wow. That's very impressive. This year Paramount released a grand total of 7, exactly one of which made the year's top 25 (while losing $), so there is zero reason to believe that the company has the means to more than quadruple its output. deadline.com/2025/12/para...

The legal system will, not without legitimacy, put the blame on the parents but I wish there could also be consequence for the galaxy of charlatans who chose to build livelihoods on advice that can, if listened to, get children killed or in danger.
Children, ffs.
A 5-month-old baby died, & 3 surviving children, ages 2, 4, & 5, had to be hospitalized with rickets, osteopenia, vitamin D deficiency, & significant developmental delays bc their parents put them on “alkaline diets.”

Anyone saying alkalization has health benefits is a murderous liar & a charlatan.

“Wait no can you leave us out of that?”

Federal employees should tell Oz to do less surgery to stop looking like the demonic bad guy in Needless Things
NEW: Dr. Oz is quite literally telling his federal employees to eat less.

“You don't have to try every cookie on the holiday table,” wrote Mehmet Oz in an email to all Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services employees.

Thank you lord baby formula is not (yet?) treated like a food supplement! 🙄
Formula is a great invention for when a woman can’t directly feed their baby for whatever reason. Go take a hike.
RFK Jr: "All of the ingenuity of corporate America has not produced an infant formula that is superior in nutrition and all the qualities that we want to the infant formula that God made, which is the infant formula in a mother's breast."

Restore the cash refunds for late or canceled flights, cretin
The Trump administration said it wants airlines and airports to offer travelers healthier food options, exercise equipment and family-friendly features like playspaces and nursing facilities.

Hard to tell how it’ll get but I sincerely hope the Ellison fall flat on their face with this one ❤️
this pretty much guarantees months and months of performative bullshit by Trump and Ellison and right wing media about how Netflix ownership would be a woke antitrust nightmare, but letting Larry and his nepobaby son dominate U.S. media would be a delightful, populist spritzer
It’s a Bidding War: Paramount Attempts Hostile Offer for Warner Bros.
David Ellison calls Netflix's $82.7 billion deal value an "inferior proposal" and tells Warners shareholders that his coalition promises $18 billion more in cash.

I know it’s not exactly doing things “by the book” but I wish media didn’t use “Paramount” in their reporting but “Larry and his son David Ellisson” because that’s a better way to express the stakes.

Are those “America first” people aware of which other countries reject dual citizenship? Any guess?
There's no legitimate purpose behind removing dual citizenships. But the ability to restrict the movement of citizens is one of the early goals of fascism. It makes it easier to stop people fleeing and punish dissidents.

Appreciation for the authorities swiftly rehousing 2,600 individuals (I wonder if the Covid camps were used 😅) and immediately announcing financial relief (in cash or as free healthcare) to all impacted, including foreign domestic helpers.
That victim age range is heartbreaking

Adding Weiss to the (long) list of “fuck that person” of the Trump era. Litteraly paid a fortune to make the world significantly worse.
“I’ve been hearing that standards will be eliminated or severely cut back. Bari has told people that she wants to get rid of standards and is shocked that they have so much power. She also asked openly, ‘What’s the point of standards?’” one CBS source said.

For all HKer out there, this kind public noises from a public office will feel very familiar.
For those not familiar, this is exactly the kind of reaction you get from authoritarian regimes. A sad mix of childish reaction and bad faith.
DHS says our new piece is "dishonest, slanted, and fundamentally inaccurate" but won't say why. Here's the story where we show with evidence that DHS spliced together clips spanning years and multiple locations to create its own reality. Gift link wapo.st/4nuDGwf

Are there Olympics for “most divorced from reality paragraph”?
Walsh’s diatribe is pretty much wrong on everything he’s saying. He’s such a grifter.

Let’s take this one step further: this ballroom is being built to scale up Trump’s “donor diners” (why continue at Mar A Lago when you can scale up at the White House?).
They’re enabling corruption to a scale never seen in US history.
The 37 ballroom donors won’t be remembered for generosity, but for funding a monument to authoritarian vanity during a shutdown, at a venue nicknamed after a sex trafficker, while Americans wonder how they’ll eat. History keeps receipts & their names aren’t coming off those walls

There is a category of people out there who will basically spare no resources (in time and energy) doing something they don’t agree with rather than… bite the bullet and just get it over with.
I’m not saying everything has to be efficient in life, but in that case, couldn’t we spare ourselves.
