In honor of today being the 103rd anniversary of the birth of my friend Kurt Vonnegut, I am posting this previously unpublished photo of the author in Cedar Falls, Iowa, taken by Vonnegut scholar and friend Jerry Klinkowitz in 1977. I love this photo.

The absolute funniest part of capitalist ideology is that they somehow managed to convince everyone that "freedom" meant like...the freedom to choose between 63 kinds of shampoo, and not like...the freedom to quit a job you hate without losing your health insurance.

If a foreign adversary snuck into our Federal budget and cut science research and education the way we’re cutting it ourselves — strategically undermining America’s long-term health, wealth, and security — we would likely consider it an act of war.

73% of mothers with kids under 18 are in the workforce. More than flowers or brunch, working moms need:

-Paid family leave
-Equal pay
-Universal childcare

(But get your mom flowers, too)

The war in Vietnam was a massacre. The students set up an encampment to protest this war crime against humanity. A genocide.

And the National Guard went in and mowed them down. 13 were shot. 4 were killed.

I have covered presidential politics for 40 years. This was the most juvenile display by a President and Vice President I have ever seen. Other presidents treated their enemies with more respect. This is a low point and a dark day for the US. Totally embarrassing.

“Never forget that your obligation is to the people. It is not, at heart, to those who pay you, or to your editor, or to your sources, or to your friends, or to the advancement of your career. It is to the public.” Bagdikian told us.

It is truly a shame that the Post has forgotten that.
