(3/4) In addition to facing sexual harassment, Umu was among the 50% of female journalists in Sierra Leone who, according to a 2021 survey by Internews in Sierra Leone, reported being targets of online abuse, including doxing and receiving death threats.

(1/4) Umu Thoronka, a journalist from #SierraLeone, was fired from her job after posting a TikTok deemed critical of the president. But Umu’s case is not an isolated incident. Her dismissal follows years of sexual harassment within the media industry.

(2/3) Carlos, who just graduated from high school in Spring Valley, New York earlier this year, has approved Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) with Deferred Action. Despite this, in August, ICE unlawfully detained Carlos and sent him to a detention center in Louisiana.

(3/4) The Inter-American Court of Human Rights’ 2024 ruling found the Guatemalan govt responsible for forcibly disappearing the four defenders, failing to search for their whereabouts, & failing to investigate the facts. RFKHR joined CERJ and their founder Amilcar Méndez, in litigating the case.

(1/4) #Guatemala: In 1989, military personnel forcibly removed four Indigenous human rights defenders—Agapito Pérez Lucas, Nicolás Mateo, Macario Pú Chivalán, and Luis Ruiz Luis— from their homes. To this day, their whereabouts remain unknown. #IDOD2025
