A *huge* vaccine victory. I've been writing on this for years; Australia has seen remarkable progress in cervical cancer prevention with the HPV vaccine. I love seeing science triumph like this.
Australia recorded ZERO cases of cervical cancer in women under 25 for the first time since they started tracking the cancer in the 80s.

This is the power of vaccines.

The HPV vaccine is extremely effective at preventing cancer.

Viruses can be oncogenic. Get your vaccines and protect yourself!
newsGP - Australia set for world-first cervical cancer elimination
Vaccination programs have played a key role, and GPs remain ‘instrumental’ in boosting screening rates to reach the 2035 target.

Can we talk about the fact that it’s weird that they made a point of recruiting an Edosian onto the Enterprise and she never turns up again?
It’s not just me right? That seemed weird.

You don’t even want to know what the employees have to do if you get within 2 feet.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

And this is why you can’t separate the art from the artist, the artist is actively making you complicit.

To me, Wiz’n’Liz is the crowning glory: a chaotic platformer that no one else seems to played 😭
Vector recreation of the iconic Psygnosis logo.

Psygnosis were a video game developer and publisher from '84 to '99, perhaps most famous for Lemmings and WipeOut. At least to me. I was also fond of a mech shooter called Walker. [🧵]

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

Not the point, but this reminds me of one of my favourite bits of dumb trivia: 978 is the UPC country code for “Bookland”.

Brought in around 2007 to unify old 10 digit ISBNs with 13 digit barcodes, books got their own country with the 3 digit prefix. Bookland! Lovely place to visit.
Apparently UK supermarkets aren’t labelling food (like mango and watermelon) with its country of origin…if that country of origin is Israel.

Under EU law, country of origin must be stated…but the UK isn’t in the EU anymore.

Anyway, if the first 3 digits on the barcode are 729, it’s Israeli.

"Children who have two stable parents have a better chance in life... The most stable relationships, the ones that last the longest, tend to be between men & women... There's an awful lot of kids in the country not getting the kind of start... they deserve."

Trying to decide how I feel about the season finale of Foundation. As someone who knows the books well, it’s always nice to be surprised (and that was very surprising), but I’m not convinced it made sense, especially to those who don’t know the books at all.

It would be great if VFX artists refused to work with directors who lie and say they don't use VFX.

It would also be fascinating to see how their movies would look if they actually didn't have any VFX.

It’s a common misconception that luddites were against technology. What they objected to was the use of technology to impoverish society by employing unskilled workers at low wages in dangerous conditions. Tech needs to be used to enrich our world, not destroy it.

At every step in the process, it impoverishes us.
