Our study ‘The global human impact on biodiversity’ is out in Nature!

Through an unprecedented synthesis (2133 studies!) we show that humans are not only shrinking species numbers—but reshaping entire communities across the planet. 🌍🌐🐟🌿🪲

We also added hoverflies and butterflies/moths to make it more pollinators rather than bees. @katebradbury.bsky.social @davegoulson.bsky.social @brigitstrawbridge.bsky.social @bumblebeetrust.bsky.social @bbka.org.uk @cathhodsman.bsky.social
We are have updated our research into which garden plants attract the most pollinators. Our original research included 5 years of data. We then moved house so this is now 9 years of data over 2 different locations.

Extreme temperature anomalies in the high Arctic continue. It’s mid-winter & it’s 4°C 🌡️
On a normal year we commonly have temperatures down to -20°C & a thick snowpack ❄️
But this winter the northernmost settlement in the world is a melting ice rink & snow on the tundra is vanishing before our eyes 😰

This is usually the coldest time of the year ❄️
Now we have positive degrees and rain 🌡️
In mid-winter, just 700 miles from the North Pole 😰
Svalbard is the fastest warming place on Earth, 7 times the global average 🌎
& catastrophic for ecosystems, infrastructure, Arctic communities & the planet 😢
