its true...only Fujioka understands the odd friction that is the soul of MH and the series started losing its way the instant he stopped being a game director and just an art director.... Fujioka should have been a household name the way Kamiya and Itsuno are

a lot of wilds weapons feel that way to me. Really cool redesign except focus mode or some single gameplay warping addition ruining it a lot of the time. Bow with the perfect dodges, SA with FSR, CB with savage axe...

anecdotal again but you dont hear ppl walking away from FU low rank saying it was too easy. Its easy for sure, but not "too easy for its own good". Being rewarded with a breezy experience for engaging with the game properly is the right kind of easy for LR, and I think thats an achievable sweetspot

as true as that is, that is a big difference and not really equivalent to what Wilds does. FU being very easy with appropriate gear that actually takes some effort to farm and obtain is a very different kind of easy than what we got in Wilds. I also think monster movesets tie to this too

Ultimately it is anecdotal, I don't have data, but I just don't think Wilds LR generally succeeds at getting people into the series. I am sure it works for some people, but I think the way it appealed to them has sacrificed goodwill for potentially more players than it gained which is really sad

but ultimately its not really about me, i dont care about the LR that much I already like these games and dont need to be sold on them, I don't need to be tutorialized. But anecdotally I have seen Wilds LR sap the motivation of many of my friends and even my own brother from getting further into MH

I replayed 4 village recently and still had a lot of fun, the monster movesets are challenging and keeping your gear upgraded feels rewarding to keep up with that. All the exploration and mechanics mirror what I will have in high rank. I don't feel that at all in Wilds LR, its not just perspective

Wilds is especially bad with how rail-roaded the whole thing is, it actively denies you wanting to interact with the world or game mechanics while also tuning itself to be even easier than anything before. Regardless of my skill that is something felt, me having gotten better doesn't make it equal

i dont necessarily disagree with low rank having been breezy since 4 but i also don't think its good to double down on a mistake either. The state of gear is not really relevant here as much as how much the game puts up a fight and gets you to feel like you are playing the game as early as it can

the biggest dealbreaker for you though is that 3U can only be played online on 3DS emu, so you will have to switch from Wii U to an uglier game when u wanna mp, whereas Tri online works smoothly from Dolphin with a very easy setup

yeah 3U massively changes the color grading (making it in line with super saturated portable games rather than the more dark and muted mainline style), turns the big desert city hub into a two room extension of the village. Tri is also pretty short (not much content) and emphasizes underwater more

you should add mh tri as your third in the rotation its very pretty and playing online in it is very easy and loc-lac is a vibe (but you have to cope with there only being six weapon types)

there is a japan only portable game that cuts out the underwater gameplay and is the origin of a lot of the 3U content en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster...
