Someone told me that Padre Pio used to talk to other people's guardian angels. Seems like poor pastoral boundaries to me. If I were a guardian angel and some priest tried to talk to me about my person, I'd be like bro mind your own business.

Given that palm trees aren’t exactly plentiful in Ireland, it always pleases me that many parishes have found an alternative for the blessed “palm” to take home.

Anti-Obesity Medicines (AOMs) look set to become the biggest selling drugs of all time, reducing mortality from various health conditions.

I recently spoke to @financialtimes.com about what this means for insurers providing retirees with guaranteed pensions for life.

There are 3 fire related stories from my childhood that have lodged in my memory.

1. I have very vague memories of being absolutely TERRIFIED by news coverage of the 1981 Stardust nightclub fire in Dublin. I was very young.

2. I remember seeing the coverage of the 1987 King’s Cross underground
As a sidebar, I do think the horror of the Kings Cross fire is one of those things that is impossible to forget if you are old enough to properly remember watching the footage and coverage of it.

But I appreciate that means you basically have to be 45 or older really now to be in that category.

Ladies, your bangs are lovely. But kindly give some help or hint to someone to whom you present yourself to have a messy substance applied to your forehead, especially if that person may not be very familiar with women's hairdressing, like a Catholic priest for instance. #AshWednesday

Meh! I agree with some criticisms of +Barron, but this piece neglects the fact that the Minnesota Bishops issued a joint statement on immigration & that his two statements in favour of Trump admin actions were as Chair of a particular USCCB committee.
When confronted with a perceived slight to his brand of Catholicism, Bishop Robert Barron is quick to post on social media. But when it comes to those on the margins, his alleged prophetic voice is conspicuously silent, says NCR digital editor John Grosso.

I saw 3 musical biopics in 2024 - Maria (about Maria Callas), Back to Black (about Amy Winehouse) and Better Man (about Robbie Williams).

Despite his music being a distant 3rd compared to Callas & Winehouse, the CGI-monkey biopic of Williams was quite a bit better than Maria and head-and-shoulders
