Bury the records of your country’s history—bury the hearts of the living millions—bury the mountains, the rivers, the lakes, and the spreading lands from sea to sea, with which his name is inseparably associated, and even then you would not bury HENRY CLAY

pretty much yeah

yeah I dislike how the back arrow is sometimes not in the main tab but instead in the sidebar, it messes with me

I see your point but Dems have very little political capital and I think they should pick their battles wisely; the battle for Trans rights will be won or lost in the public discourse, the dems should focus on stuff they can actually prevent, like blocking Gaetz/RFK Jr.
November 20, 2024 at 11:59 PM
yeah I don't attend protests because I don't really believe in them. I do have opinions, very strong ones actually, I just don't think there's any point fighting for a losing battle. also can't we just discuss this in a civilised way 😭 we're basically on the same side
November 20, 2024 at 10:40 PM
I'm not blaming trans people on her loss! I'm blaming inflation and global trends which hurt incumbents across the globe. I legitimately don't think trans people cost democrats this election, some people do but they are wrong imo
November 20, 2024 at 10:37 PM
yeah I wouldn't phrase it like that but I like to think I have a consistent worldview lol. I don't opposed concerted messaging on an issue, I just think that most of the time acts of public protest don't effectively sway public opinion
November 20, 2024 at 10:33 PM
I don't like that Dems have to do this, but their position is not the popular one atm. It's a battle of hearts and minds, and unfortunately the hearts and minds of the American people are not currently in the right place for resistance to be effective here
November 20, 2024 at 10:31 PM
No, I just think elected officials should be very cautious about the impacts they have on public opinion so their effortd don't backfire. Lincoln definitely wasn't a coward, but he waited to take action on abolition until he knew it wouldn't backfire
November 20, 2024 at 10:29 PM
I also generally reject the idea that protest is that effective at swaying public opinion, but that's a debate for another time and platform lol
November 20, 2024 at 10:25 PM
I didn't actually lose anything because I'm not an American, but I doubt Kamala lost because of Palestine, most voters sadly don't care much about foreign policy. Inflation was a much more salient issue albeit the margin was small enough you can argue many factors caused her loss
November 20, 2024 at 10:24 PM
Rosa Parks wasn't an elected official, I'm fine with private individuals doing this type of stuff, but the ramifications are very different when an elected official does it.
November 20, 2024 at 10:23 PM
I do have values! but values don't matter if you lose. a mediocre dem government will always be better than a fascistic republican one, and at the moment a democratic party which is unapologetically liberal on all issues doesn't look like it can win
November 20, 2024 at 10:19 PM
being miserable wouldn't actually achieve anything. I'm also pretty sure the GOP wants to pick a fight on this issue because polling shows their position is much more popular, so not playing their game is actually a very brave move!

what would you have her do, beat up mike johnson?
November 20, 2024 at 10:06 PM
his support for colonisation of slaves (not a good policy, but one he stuck by despite it being unpopular), his attempt to secure graduated emancipation twice in Kentucky (1799 and 1849) and his persistence with the American System.

I agree (totally unexpected ik), Calhoun was funny but also semi-deranged and evil, I've softened on Webster but he allowed himself to become the puppet of wealthy barons and was funadmentally conservative, Clay was kinda driven by ambition but also held genuine beliefs which are evidenced by
