I'm attending a training course on Deliverance Ministry. Essentially, it is about ‘delivering’ a person, persons, or even a place, from the various kinds of evil that exist in the world and which cause anxiety, suffering and prevent peace of mind.

Today the Church celebrates St Francis of Assisi, who bore the marks of Christ’s humility and love. He reminds us that true freedom is found in poverty of spirit, joy in creation, and conformity to Christ crucified. May we learn from his witness of peace and praise.

Many are called, but few are chosen. In our encounters with Christ, do we allow him to transform us? A sermon for St Matthew and the Battle of Britain.

Introducing our new Ale House website! A big thank you to Ollie Limpkin for his work developing a new online presence for us. The site is user friendly and should show the Ale House to a wider audience. Take a look at www.colwallalehouse.org.uk

During WWII, in 1942, a group of Anglican missionaries and local Papuan Christians were killed by Japanese forces and others for their faith and refusal to abandon their communities. They are remembered today as the Martyrs of New Guinea.

Today we remember Monica of Hippo, born in Thagaste (331–387), mother of Augustine of Hippo. She was a Christian married to a Roman pagan but whose life of prayer and devotion was of great influence to Augustine.

We won't be meeting for our usual Prayers for Peace this morning but we can pray this lovely one from John Birch privately.

I presided and preached at St James the Great, Cradley today. Lovely church and community. My sermon for the Feast of St Bartholomew tinyurl.com/5n79vxs4
St Bartholomew
On St Bartholomew’s day we are invited to reflect on these three texts and recognise that the way we live the gospel today continues to be informed by those who have gone before.

Really enjoyed presiding at Cradley this morning. It's a nice size church. I also gave them one my sermons where I jumped around quite a bit (not literally).

On Iplayer you can watch the Proms of Mendelssohn’s Hymn of Praise. It moves symphonic form into a sacred offering, merging profound Lutheran devotion with Romantic grandeur. It is a musical testament to divine order, faith, and the glory of God’s creative word.https://tinyurl.com/44nfpxpy

Today we remember Bernard of Clairvaux. Mystic, political broker, critic of excess, preacher of crusade, and a shaper of Cistercian spirituality.

My ancestors were displaced in the Highland Clearances, a time of great social change in Scotland. And a similar context for Isaiah's vision of the vineyard: https://revagf.wordpress.com/2025/08/17/the-highland-clearances-of-judah/

My sermon on Isaiah 5.1-7 at Matins, draws parallels with my ancestors cleared from Kildonan, Sutherland in 1816 and latifundia in Judea at the time of the prophet; and the need for social justice today.

Was accosted in the village by a visitor with strong views about The Fall, salvation and Eve questioning God. I only nipped out for some milk.

What happens when the gold and glitz of Dubai wears off? I preached on the parable of the Rich Fool and can see so many parallels in society today. https://revagf.wordpress.com/2025/08/17/the-rich-fool/

Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry. My sermon on the "Rich Fool" this morning considered life in Dubai and what entices people to move there. And what lies underneath the veneer or when the lovely wears off.

Today we celebrated the Feast of St James with our friends from Cradley and Aston, Birmingham. Eucharist followed by generous lunch in Colwall Village Hall. A joy to preside.

Today we remember Elizabeth Ferard, ordained as the first deaconess in the Church of England. A pioneer of women’s ministry, she led the revival of this ancient role, combining service, compassion, and faith. #Anglican #ChurchHistory #ElizabethFerard

It's wedding season! Last year my church voted unanimously to extend an invitation to celebrate love to those in same sex relationships. Celebrating love knows no boundaries: we embrace all couples and their stories. www.colwallchurch.org.uk/blog1/embracing-all-couples-and-their-stories
