Games loading from TZXDuino on my Jupiter Ace worked only when oscilloscope was connected. A simple 3k resistor mod and now its loading perfectly from the TZXDuino. Also loading many games is a two part affair with the graphics and then the game. See here retronerd.co.uk/building-a-j...

Sprite masking gave Spectrum games their unique look, and as mentioned by Kevin, involves storing and writing out twice the sprite data, once for the mask, and again for the graphic data, so was slower than just XOR or writing the sprite to the screen (Booty is a good example of that)...
