Jefferson had slaves hiding in his walls operating doors and dumbwaiters to impress visitors to Monticello. He didn't just participate in slavery he innovated it 2/2

Jefferson made one very weak attempt to prevent slavery from becoming an institution and then made a fortune forcing children to smith nails that he sold. He was also possibly the first person to view a slave as an asset that appreciated in value (by having children he could sell) 1/2
