This is an unconscionable betrayal of the people Trump and his allies claim to serve – and the heartbreaking stories I heard today will fill my voice as I return to Washington to join my fellow Democrats in demanding that the Trump administration fully fund SNAP immediately.

Despite billions of dollars in contingency funds available to fund the program, the Trump administration has chosen to use hunger as a political weapon by refusing to release these benefits that over 42 million Americans – including 16 million children - need to survive.

During this GOP shutdown, I’ve heard from so many constituents worried about rising health care costs if Republicans let ACA tax credits expire. Last week, I called up one of those constituents to let her know that I’ll always keep fighting for affordable health care for all.

Yesterday, I returned a call from a Social Security employee in our Capital Region who is currently being forced to work without pay thanks to the GOP shutdown. I’m grateful for her words of encouragement, and I’ll keep fighting for her and all those suffering from this shutdown.
