"Nuclear strategy, once framed as a tool for security, has become an invisible but ever-present law — shaping the very foundations of political authority, economic order, and cultural imagination."

Today is publication day for Empire of Deterrence. Read an excerpt/order now from the link in our bio
Throughout history, the physical body has been seen as a prison, as something to be escaped by any means necessary. As the physical world continues to collapse around us, Post-Self asks what this escape from our bodies might look like, and what it might mean for the future.

The Neo-Nazi Groyper War to capture the Republican Party is a good example of "network war." A group existing mostly online ("in the cloud) takes power in the real world. When it becomes powerful enough to also take land, the victor of a network war can become a network state. That's the 101 theory.
In 2022, Peter Thiel protégé Balaji Srinivasan—formerly of Andreessen Horowitz and Coinbase—envisioned a Second American Civil War.

He predicted it would be triggered by Bitcoin.

This is how it would work:

It's been said that socialism/communism, for all its strengths, fails to cater to the fears and desires unlocked and left to run amok after the withdrawal of religion.

Next week, our new release looks at the return of the spiritual oppressed.

Wise words from @garethdennis.uk and some stunning images out of Sydney.
People can and should have nice things.

If someone writes a report saying "we build transport that is too nice and that's why projects are expensive and that's why we don't build more of them" then not only should their analysis be discarded as junk but they should be pilloried.

Today is Sam Bankman-Fried's appeal. It barely matters. But last week his mother Barbara Fried published a lengthy argument for her son's innocence - it's at least inteteresting.

Like all SBF defenses, it shows a massive, wilful blind spot.

"If accelerationism can be defined as the cultural movement which argues for the embrace of technology and abstract thinking to punch through to a post-capitalist future, we might seem to be left with very few accelerationists standing."

📺 Watching this interview certainly raised an arched eyebrow 🤨 when David Z. Morris describes EAs and “rationalists” (a term that I’d never heard of before) who apparently dismiss knowledge and expertise 🤯 [4:45].

If any of the big publishers disappeared the others would just swallow and churn, so no loss. But imagine what the world of books would be without independent publishers? Doesn’t bear thinking about. Congratulations Kevin and Hetha, so glad you dared.
Twenty years ago Heth & I remortgaged our house to start a publishing company that would find great new stories others thought too risky to publish.

Our books have been short listed and won awards and two have been adapted into TV series.

Today we paid that mortgage off

In the UK there's no punishment for employers who refuse to pay their workers, but @mattcole.bsky.social argues that we should follow the example of New Zealand and make non-payment of wages a criminal matter.

Employers Who Steal Wages Should Be Made Criminally Liable | Novara Media
A shocking investigation has revealed that employers who fail to pay wages simply get away with it. It’s time to make wage theft a criminal matter, argues Matthew Cole.
