Pumping on my way to Vienna: reviewing 'lactation room' at @schiphol.bsky.social. Was directed to this 'baby care room'. Well. There's a changing table, but that doesn't really help with the pumping, does it... No chair. 0/10 #breastfeeding

Reviewing lactation rooms at @utrechtuniversity.bsky.social, part 7: Vening Meineszgebouw. 6/10. Has a tap, fridge, basic chair. Can't be locked from the inside and also functions as storage room. What should I draw on the white board? #ParentInAcademia #Breastfeeding

Is there someone here who's able to figure out what engraving this image of Luther is based upon? Found this one on the website Mary Evans Picture Library and it's from a 19th-century book (www.maryevans.com/search.php?p...). But I assume it follows an older engraving... #earlymodern #arthistory

We also looked at some brilliant objects from the Special Collections: from medieval manuscripts to Ethiopian talismanic texts, and from Arabic writing boards to Indonesian palm-leaf manuscripts. Why did the makers choose certain materials? How does this influence our experience of the object? 2/3

This afternoon, we invited a hundred students to the @utrechtuniversity.bsky.social library to find out: how does materiality matter? How do writing materials impact script and our perception of text? We experienced with writing on parchment, papyrus, paper, bark, stone, our own bodies... 1/3

Reviewing lactation rooms at @utrechtuniversity.bsky.social, part 6: Johanna Hudig building, room 2.18. 8/10, basic but alright. Chair, tap, fridge, door can be locked from the inside. Bit of a search to find the room, though, and also used as place to store beer. #ParentInAcademia #Breastfeeding

Reviewing lactation rooms at @utrechtuniversity.bsky.social, part 5: Drift 27. 3/10. Garden shed turned prayer room, also to be used as lactation room. Comfortable chair, door can be locked. Very cold though and the electric heater isn't doing much. No tap or fridge. #ParentInAcademia #Breastfeeding

Maarten saw his first medieval manuscripts yesterday! As he likes to put everything he sees into his mouth, we opted for some behind glass (although eating manuscripts is in itself a very medieval habit, it's not the best way to start solids). Brilliant exposition at @rijksmuseumtwenthe.bsky.social!

As the Christmas break is over, I'm looking back on a fruitful 2024! Two books, one special issue, and one perfect little Maarten. Proudest of the last of these, but also pretty happy with how the books turned out! #output #parentinacademia 1/2
