Similar to abortion, it's exasperating seeing "democrats and republicans are the same" when every map of state policy outcomes looks like this - policies so reactionary only federal law holds them at a lower bound in GOP trifecta states and reasonable center-left policies in Dem trifecta states
Jesus dude I didn't realize the $7.25 minimum wage was still in effect anywhere, let alone the entire south

maybe the people who only write about presidential politics could take a nice, long, long vacation, get a good rest for 2024, and free up some space for policy and state and local politics while nothing changes for the next six months

anybody with an operating brain can see this shit is objectively against Israel's best interest, just like invading Iraq was a terrible, expensive disaster for the US
For the first week or so after Hamas' attack, people got fired and blacklisted for expressing the same basic views as the Haaretz editorial board. In the last week or so, it's been for expressing the same basic views as career civil servants from State on deep background.

Pundits and journalists, in particular, need to grapple more seriously with the fact that the empirical reality of crime levels and the *perception* of crime-associated threat are two entirely separate things.

It’s true for many public policy issues, but most pronounced here. 1/

New from me: a friendly reminder that Jim Jordan should have been expelled from the House for his assistance in trying to overturn the 2020 election, not on the cusp of being made speaker
Opinion | America has an incredibly short memory. Jim Jordan proves it.
The Ohio Republican spent the aftermath of the 2020 election spreading lies and plotting to reverse its results. Now he might become speaker of the House.

Still time, send pics, will make sure UAW gets.

Gosh, what a coincidence how a mercenary hacker decided to hack climate advocates just for fun and the fruits of that were used by Exxon Mobil to deter state AG investigations and influence judicial proceedings. Surely nothing here for the DOJ to investigate.

Certainly off the main topics of the day but I had to note this sad milestone https://margaretsullivan.substack.com/p/the-last-press-run-in-buffalo-makes?utm_medium=ios
The last press run in Buffalo makes me sad. And that's more than nostalgia.
I feel this personally and it also has a deeper cost

THIS JUST IN: Early voting has begun in Ohio, and I have voted, most notably giving "Yes" votes to Issue 1 (keep busybodies out of other people's uteruses) and Issue 2 (let my people toke). If you live in Ohio, I encourage you to vote, and also encourage you to give "Yes" votes to Issues 1 and 2.
