This is Sergeant Major Roberto Valente of the Italian army. He and five other Italian soldiers died in Afghanistan on 17 September, 2009 following an attack. He left behind a family.
I made it a point to attend Valente’s funeral in Naples as a humble gesture of gratitude for his service.

Memorial in Kaunas in honor of the Dutch consul Jan Zwartendijk, who together with his Japanese counterpart Sugihara saved thousands of Jews (Zwartendijk’s wartime office is now a Caffeine coffee shop).

Sounds like an amazing opportunity! I’ve been able to visit some Holocaust sites around Lithuania and Latvia over the years. It’s important to take the time to keep the memory of this tragedy alive.
