Me: Oh, here’s how we can update our typography…
Work: No, write your goals today.

Me: Here’s one way to reduce our tech debt with modern DX.
Work: No, we just want to stay with Java 7 and jQuery forever.

Work: Hey, we noticed you don’t seem to be enthusiastic lately…

Congrats, Twitter, on locking out every user who registered a Yubikey. Hello, Bluesky 👋

Affinity Designer 2 is way more fun to use on an iPad with Apple Pencil than Adobe Illustrator.

Other fun fact: To show their patriotism, trans people in the Philippines do the same thing with their trans flag, flipping its colour bands when setting it vertically. 🏳️‍⚧️

😬

The flag of the Philippines during peace time has blue on top and red at the bottom when horizontal, but blue on the left side and red on the right when vertical. The colour stripes are swapped during wartime.

There’s your vexillology fact du jour.

Meta is killing their Facebook Like button for external sites in February 2026. Good riddance. Why are there still blogs out there still using it? When’s the last time you ever bothered clicking on one? They’re just UX and visual pollution at this point.

My thoughts on Liquid Glass and the 2020s design at Apple:

Liquid Glass will fade away like brushed metal did in Apple UIs of the 2000s.

It works well as a “statement piece” of a few UI elements in an app. Anything more is overused and distracting.

My dad is ambivalent about me being trans.

But hey, we both hate Harry Potter.

Once I called him and he went on a rant for half an hour about being too much Harry Potter on TV.

Years ago, my dad famously tossed a ladder over a garage. I made this edit for him.

A win’s a win!

I’m updating my dress.css stylesheet and I noticed that somewhere between Chromium v136 and v141, the font rendering got changed *just enough* to bother my Playwright tests.

Bluesky now has their Instagram: Flashes.

- Their app starts with a blurry non-Retina logo screen. Weird.
- They’re not making clear you just need to log in with your BlueSky account, not make a new one.
- It’s just a viewer of any image you posted on Bluesky, not a separate profile.

Apple shared a gallery of Liquid Glass used in various apps. Cool. Yet it shows that Liquid Glass is nice but only as a “statement piece” of a UI, like special typography used in headings but not the body text. developer.apple.com/design/new-d...

Okay, nothing against SMT—they’re a fine cinema theatre chain in Japan. But their initialism just reminds me of a bus company back where I studied, called the same. We had affectionate names for it, like “Slow Motion Transport” and “Shit Must Travel.” 😅

Every time Apple makes changes to the UI of Safari on iOS, they leave web devs in the dark. Like here, when you use a <div> as the background, you cannot cover the areas behind the UI, even if you resize it. I hear there are hacks for this… but geez what a pain.

Gonna save you some time. Vitest 4 does NOT work with Astro 5. Its import-analysis fails. Downgrade to Vitest 3.

Japan PM Sanae Takaichi wants to relax the limit of overtime hours. It’s currently set at 45 hours per month. If we go with 8-hour workdays, this means 5 to 6 extra days already, around 75% of the weekend time. And that’s still not enough? She can go fuck herself.

iOS 26 may be cool but sometimes it looks like Apple covered it with a fire retardant that yellowed over time.

I’ve done so much in the past two weeks that this Sunday I’m just crashing in bed. Then here I am using voice recognition on my iPhone to input text in my MacBook via SSH to control Codex and vibe code a Pong game where the computer plays against itself. Weird flex, but okay. 😅
