One of the pitched ideas (so one of the best of the night) was to have agentic AI run defence of the country. But because ethics and laws take so long to figure out with AI, we'd develop 2 simultaneously. The 2nd one would not care about ethics or laws at all (2/3)

My employer hosted a series of mindef lectures where they sent someone from a different department each time to tell us what they are doing and what problems they are facing, and then asking us for ideas. The best ideas were chosen to pitch at the last meeting. (1/?)

IP holders would rightly be annoyed, and no judge is going to accept 'well I told them not to use my platform that way, what more do you want?' as a legal argument. You need to actually DO something to prevent users from using your product that way.

ToS are for telling users what the rules are so they know what will get them kicked off the platform. What they're trying to use it for is legal cover for negligent design.
Imagine if youtube said 'you may not upload other people's work, but then did nothing when people uploaded whole movies.

1) "don't use this product this way" in the tos is not a defence against negligent design. That's like making a car that explodes when you go over the speed limit.
2) the fact that they put it in the tos proves they knew it could happen but decided to go to market anyway.

Since they're talking about illegal orders and using the army against citizens I'm guessing domestic. It might just be in response to the deployment of the national guard.
