Whenever I played James Brown, my dad would show up in my doorway and say “this is singing? Listen to Nat King Cole: THAT’s singing. Ella Fitzgerald: that’s singing. This? This is screaming.” Every single time. Ha! Oh, and my mother called Mick Jagger the man from the planet of the apes.
