Trump on climate change: "The world was gonna burn up, but it actually got much cooler. It's a little conspiracy. We have to investigate them immediately. They probably are being investigated."

they're too lazy to do a ground invasion so we're gonna get bombings and special ops that we are told are "low risk" and "low cost"

and a bunch of the dumbest people you know will clap like seals bc they've been talking up a full ground invasion and want to give credit for not occupying carcacas

Has anyone actually written something on the apparently inability of the reactionary mind to grasp the basic themes and even overt text of Tolkien?

Like at some point Gandalf turns directly to camera and says “the Men of Gondor sure are insufficient to this task, we need the hobbits to do it”
this is an overtly fascist narrative - even the misreading of myth & literature is on brand

It is hard to overstate the stress produced by the incoherence of academic institutions pumping generative AI when they want to play business and then leaving instructors to deal with the results when they want to play school
Cheating with an LLM is the easiest thing in the world for a student to do, but it creates a massive, laborious headache for a prof, if you intend to take it seriously. There’s meetings, emails, discussions, moral dilemmas. It’s just incredibly burdensome, on top of everything else right now.
I had 9 meetings about students using Chat GPT/LLMs on their papers today.

If you want to know why professors burn out, ask anyone trying to teach critical thinking and writing skills to Freshmen....

This hits the nail on the head.
In addition to the other obvious harms, if this guidance is followed, it will cause extensive moral injury and PTSD among our own troops. As someone who genuinely cares about the wellbeing of our military service members, I’m horrified and incredibly demoralized. Restraint is honor, not weakness.
Hegseth: "We unleash overwhelming and punishing violence on the enemy. We also don't fight with stupid rules of engagement. We untie the hands of our warfighters to intimidate, demoralize, hunt, and kill the enemies of our country. No more politically correct and overbearing rules of engagement."

Deeply unchristian framing.
Hegseth: "As history teaches us, the only people who actually deserve peace and those who are willing to wage war to defend it. That's why pacifism is so naive and dangerous."

I have lots to say and I am convincing myself to say as little as possible, but I don't think a society that has been absolutely saturated in unavoidable looping videos of snuff films for a decade is one that can hold. Power will and has coalesced around those who best weaponize the snuff films.

Whether you’re a legislator at your home in the middle of the night, a Catholic school kid celebrating morning mass, a high school student going about your day, a speaker at an outdoor event or anyone in any walk of life, you’re somebody’s child.
You’re a human being.
You shouldn’t be shot for it.
