It's pathetic and disgusting that K+12 schools whitewashed history. The positive note is that in many colleges they don't do that and you learn the truth. Some universities (in red controlled states) are now being throttled from offering some classes which is unfathomable in this day and age.

To me, taking down my Christmas decorations is the home equivalent of me shaving off my beard. Neither one looks right and both make me feel naked.
