Understandable. Lucky for you, this is an older review of mine, and they released 1.0.

Shameless plug but whatever haha

This is a fantastic roguelite. Random weapons, random upgrades, check. Need to get through a wall? Blow it up. It's more methodical than most but a ton of fun

I absolutely love Jupiter Hell and that's closer to Rogue than any of the games in the genres I have triple the amount of time in. Semantics aside, it's what gets you the player caught in that repeating loop that matters

I want as much RNG as possible while still making sense. I get more satisfaction out of beating the game while having the least amount of control over choices. I don't want to pick a weapon from a set choice going in. Give me a random selection. It's not a deal breaker though 2/

This is why I love the rogue-lite/like genre. Besides the "one more run" aspect, I want a good challenge. Putting aside the nuances of like/lite, I would prefer Aura or Worlds or Dead Cells over Hades. Hot take: Hades is a great game but does not embody the genre, at least how I view it 1/

I have news for you

But I can't tell you about it because I know nothing about anything (ask me Monday if you catch my drift)

I make sure I get it right in reviews only because I talk about meta progression or I don't. We seem to have similar taste though so I fully understand what you mean. In the end, if they have that "one more run" feel, count me in

If you want more of a roguelike and less roguelite, try Jupiter Hell. I won't get started on the nuances between like and lite haha especially since lite pretty much took over mainstream

I think Moonlighter falls in with Cult of the Lamb in regards to their roguelite-ness.

What's funny is that while I love it and would rate it high on a list of X games (if I liked lists), it wouldn't be an immediate inclusion on a roguelite list. I know it has the elements, but I guess with the base building and cult worshipping, it seems like a smaller aspect.

This also broke my heart but I appreciate your explanation

Check out Kiborg. It's a beat 'em up roguelite. Hyper violent with Arkham combo building and a really cool upgrade system.

Hellclock was my favorite game from PAX East this year. Oblivion Override is Dead Cells with robots. Always happy to introduce new games to people. Those were just from reviews I have done somewhat recently on PC. I'm sure there are more for PS5/Switch. I'll update you if I think of them.

I'm pretty sure I have played every single game on that list. My ordering would be WAYYYYYY different. May I interest you in these roguelites not on the list:

Beyond the Long Night
Haste
Hellclock
Madshot
Oblivion Override
OTXO
Ovis Loop
Realm of Ink
Tape to Tape
Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade

No idea what that snippet is, but I recognize that first search result.

I loved my time with the game (my review made that clear). I'd like to revise that and say I LOVE this game. I've pushed into fast +6 in all but one level so far and there is definitely more strategy involved now than in the base game.

Pirate Outlaws. Sequel is releasing soon.

Possessor(s) looks really cool. It's on my wishlist.

I refuse to take part in the Keighly's (nice job on the naming). It's a great game and doesn't need an award (although the devs deserve the recognition)
