The screamer, Hugh Panero, blames Mossberg for his company's recent problems: falling stock price, a sudden plunge in consumer interest. Mossberg is annoyed but hardly intimidated. As the author of the weekly "Personal Technology" column in The Wall Street Journal, he's used to dealing with disgruntled execs. He lets Panero shout. A crowd is gathering. Finally, Mossberg yells back, "I don't give a fuck about your stock price!"

TikTok, Amazon, and Google haven’t yet provided comment to The Verge about C2PA support. Meta told The Verge that it is continuing to implement C2PA and evaluating its labeling approach as AI evolves. OpenAI simply directed us to its scant blog posts and help center article about C2PA support. Meta, like OpenAI, has an entire platform for its AI slop, complete with dedicated feeds for social and video content, and both companies are pumping AI-generated videos into social media. X, which has its own controversies regarding nude celebrity deepfakes, pointed us to its policy that supposedly bans deceptive AI-generated media, but did not provide any information about how this is moderated beyond relying on user reports and community notes. X was notably a founding member of the CAI back when it was still known as Twitter, but pulled itself from the initiative without explanation after Elon Musk purchased the platform.

I think I saw a report today that said average car prices are headed north of $50,000, while defaults on financing are at an all-time high. That’s not a good split, right? The cars are getting more expensive than ever and people are not able to pay their bills. A lot of people can’t afford these ever more expensive cars. Whenever we publish a story about a new EV, the first thing that people say in our comments is, “That’s too expensive.” How are you thinking about that? MB: That’s why I’m extremely proud of what we have from a Chevrolet perspective, whether you’re looking at the Chevrolet Trax and Trailblazer, which are internal combustion engine vehicles and start at around $20,000 and then go up, or you’re looking at now the Bolt that we are bringing back and just announced will be at that $30,000 level. The Equinox is in the mid-$30,000 range, too. I think we’re offering a great choice for the consumer in a very affordable price range with great vehicles that have beautiful design and incredible safety. If you look at the screen on the Equinox EV, it’s a large screen with great safety features. I understand what the broad industry trends are, but when I look at it from a General Motors perspective, we’re doing extremely well in these entry-level segments in both ICE and EV, as well as really strong work at the top end.

It is of course helpful to remember that in the Trump regime, every accusation is a confession. Antifa might not be organized, but the Department of Homeland Security sure is. George Soros might not be paying professional protesters, but right-wing media personalities are bankrolled by Trumpist billionaires. In the case of Ben Shapiro, that’s billionaires Dan and Farris Wilks; for Rumble, thank Peter Thiel. This is to say nothing of Rupert Murdoch’s Fox News, or Elon Musk’s X, or the Daily Caller itself, which is funded by Charles Koch. Indeed, the memo’s description of the environment that leads to terroristic violence applies cleanly to the entire right-wing ecosystem. But perhaps the most striking accusation-as-confession is this paragraph from the national security presidential memorandum: This political violence is not a series of isolated incidents and does not emerge organically. Instead, it is a culmination of sophisticated, organized campaigns of targeted intimidation, radicalization, threats, and violence designed to silence opposing speech, limit political activity, change or direct policy outcomes, and prevent the functioning of a democratic society. What is this but an elegant encapsulation of the past 10 years? It describes everything from the removal of Jimmy Kimmel from the air to the Libs of TikTok pattern of incitement to Charlie Kirk’s Professor Watchlist to Fox News’ defamation of Dominion Voting Systems and its employees to the celebrity worship of people like Kyle Rittenhouse. What is this entire anti-terrorism memorandum if not an admission that terrorism works, and that terrorism has secured the White House? a verge feature story with the headline / subheadline of "Everything is terrorism in Trump’s America / Identifying faceless ICE agents. Amazon’s workaround has been to use its LLM models as a kind of translator. It interprets what you say, then hands off the request to deterministic systems — APIs, device controllers, or local Matter connections. The unpredictability of LLMs is a poor fit for smart home control, where reliability and repeatability are crucial. I’ve found this works most of the time, but if the LLM translates a request incorrectly or there’s a gap in the API, it appears that handoff can fail. I assume that’s why my bathroom fan sometimes turns on as requested and why Alexa sometimes insists on creating a routine but then forgets to finish the job.
