Woke up to this email from my doctor’s office.
The CDC this week changed the vaccine safety portion of its website to suggest there may be a link between vaccines and autism. This change was not made because there is new data to support the claim – in fact, no such data exists. Rather, it seems the CDC’s public stance on vaccine safety has been changed to reflect the personal beliefs of the current Secretary of HHS, RFK Jr. The vaccine safety issue has been studied vigorously and repeatedly since 1998, when a fraudulent case series was published alleging a possible link between the MMR vaccine and autism. That case series was subsequently retracted, and its author lost his medical license. 40 studies across multiple countries involving millions of patients ensued. None has shown a link between any vaccine and autism. The American Academy of Pediatrics and a joint group of leading medical organizations have issued statements contradicting the CDC’s messaging. We agree with these organizations. CMG will not be changing its stance on routine pediatric vaccination. The politicization of the CDC means that it’s guidance cannot be uniformly relied upon without independent review. Portions of its website do still reflect up-to-date science, such as the travel health sections. We will have to see whether this changes with time. If you are not sure whether you should rely on a particular piece of information from the CDC, please contact the office to discuss with one of our providers. The American Academy of Pediatrics remains a reliable source for science-based information. No CDC vaccine scientist has defended the CDC’s new messaging. The scientists themselves were blindsided, and our hearts go out to them. They have spent careers serving the institution and the country selflessly and tirelessly, and for the time being their work has been set aside. They have our thanks, our sympathy, and our respect.

The Republicans new health care plan is astonishingly poorly conceived.
It isn’t clear exactly how the Cassidy accounts would work. Flexible-spending accounts, which are typically used with employer coverage, not ACA plans, are tax-advantaged setups that consumers can fund themselves, up to around $3,300 a year. The tax-free money can then be used for a variety of health needs that would typically be paid for out of the enrollee’s pocket, including toward hospital or doctor care, or other expenses such as glasses. However, the money can’t be used to pay an insurance premium.  A different type of account, known as a health savings account, or HSA, can currently be used with ACA plans, but they are only allowed if the coverage has a deductible above a certain level—now set at $1,650 for an individual or $3,300 for a family.  A third type of setup, known as an individual coverage health reimbursement arrangement, can be used in a different way. Employers can put money in these accounts, and the funding can be applied toward workers’ premiums for coverage that they purchase themselves through the ACA marketplaces.   Some Democrats don’t like the broader idea of rerouting the subsidies. They view it as making it harder for people to buy health insurance and particularly difficult on lower-income people.  “This is, unsurprisingly, nonsensical. Is he suggesting eliminating health insurance and giving people a few thousand dollars instead?” said Sen. Chris Murphy (D., Conn.) in reaction to Trump’s post.

Say what you want about the 2025 WalMart Thanksgiving bundle, it’s still better than what Donald served to guests at MarALago last year.
Walmart just announced that Prices for a Thanksgiving Dinner is now down 25% since under Sleepy/Crooked Joe Biden, in 2024. A photo of the 2024 MarALago Thanksgiving dinner. Walmart’s Thanksgiving 2025 bundle features 22 items while the chain store’s 2024 meal had 29. The entire 2025 cart comes out to $39.33, according to the Walmart website. In its announcement of the 2024 meal, Walmart says it would serve eight people for less than $7 per person, making it roughly $56.

Almost the entire staff behind the CDC’s flagship publication, Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, has been fired. The report is typically one of the first places where information about U.S. disease outbreaks is disseminated before appearing in other journals and publishes information on a wide variety of critical public health issues.

Federal health employees are being fired as the White House makes good on a promise to terminate federal employees en masse as the second week of the government shutdown drags to a close. An HHS spokesperson on Friday confirmed to STAT that the firings, known as reductions in force, had hit the department, but did not specify which agencies were affected.
