I make clothes and complain about computers
Icymi I am your Clothes/Fabric Guy. I have professionally outfitted entire homes with custom cushions made out of IKEA curtains for reality television and removed stains from garments that were in 6 musicals per week. Stop throwing away perfectly good stuff and ask me questions

my father-in-law is a “I know a guy” Guy. sadly all the old Guys are aging out of the Guy Economy. Guys are fundamentally incompatible with Hustle Culture because it’s not about “winning” a deal, it’s about collecting favors and goodwill in a mutually-beneficial cycle. protect your local Guy Economy

Japan Post has ceased all mail delivery to the US for packages valued over $100. To get around this, a Japanese denim company tells me they'll ship components to US customers one-by-one — fabric, buttons, rivets, a sewing needle, and thread. You then assemble the jeans at home like IKEA furniture.

Every time takes like this go around the internet I think about my parents and then I remember that before they were suburban Boomers they had literal first careers as child farmhands and an exception has never proved a rule more
people do not understand how much better industrial agriculture is at making food than hobbyist agriculture.
Homesteading in practice is well-meaning people saying “well any little bit that we can do helps!” and then drive their SUV to tractor supply twice a week to offset 10% of their vegetable consumption

I support the US garment industry. I don't believe in making life harder for immigrants or erecting blanket tariffs. So how can we reshore some of our US garment manufacturing without xenophobia or protectionism? Here's my view. 🧵

My goal this year is to write more blog posts with a focus on education and information about zero-waste pattern drafting and my design process. I'm starting off with a little "what and why".

I’ve been thinking of doing a little book club or book reports for sewists/knitters. The level of instructions indie patterns include is great! But when we build skills this way we also lose some of the benefits of continuity we get when we learn from books and people
