Found out today that the Watertown Free Public Library has cataloged and made available the copy of the zine edition of my chapbook that I made as a 2024 Watertown Zine Fest special. You can find it in their zine collection on the second floor.

In the first line "uguisu" (鶯) is a bird found in Japan, the Japanese bush-warbler, also known as the Japanese Nightingale. (3/18)

(Important note: "onna" is used here to mean "woman" because of the length constraints of haiku. "Onna" actually means something like "human female," and using it to refer to someone is rude and will make you sound like a Ferengi. (14/24)

...by another phrase is a conjunctive. "Katana" (かたな) can mean any sword, but usually means the single-edge sword we think of in the West. In Japanese, the verb follows both the subject and object, so the verb referencing katana is in the last line. (9/24)

About the second line, a "haori" (羽織) is a half-coat-type jacket worn over a kimono that in Basho's time was only worn by Japanese men. "Kite" (着て) is a psuedo-conjunctive verb conjugation of "kiru", to wear, which used in isolation is interpreted as a casual request but if followed... (8/24)
