Brexit.

Ten years have passed. Arguments raged. Our economic issues were due to global shocks.

But no, new data shows UK falling behind 33 comparable countries.

We took back control - straight into a self inflicted economic slowdown.
New: Boris Johnson’s ‘Brexit Titanic success’ was half right
Nearly ten years on, the first full assessment of Brexit confirms what millions warned: Britain made itself poorer

“Growth, no matter what they tell you, is not a “vibe” – it’s a result, a consequence.

You get growth when kids are taught in safe buildings with adequately supported teachers, when workers aren’t sick for months waiting on operations or mental health support, when freight moves on time…”

They lie about the ECHR.
Just like they lied about Brexit. Claiming if we just got rid of that ‘European’ thing, we’d be free, we’d have control, all our problems solved…
It’s NOT TRUE.
We’d inflict more chaos on ourselves and torch our own human rights framework for NOTHING.
For liars.
Again.
The European Convention on Human Rights is being misrepresented in the UK, says former Supreme Court President Lady Hale👇

The reason the Right are so invested in the myth that the arts have no value isn’t because the arts don’t generate wealth (they do); it’s that studying the arts teaches people to imagine better ways of judging the value of an idea than by counting how much money it makes…

The people (Tories and Reform) who tell you your rights are safe if we leave the ECHR as they’ll replace them with British laws also told you our trade, borders and NHS was safe if we left the EU because they’d negotiate amazing trade deals, take control of our borders and fix the NHS…..

We flounced out of the EU on the say-so of politicians who lied to us. And what a total shitshow that’s turned out to be. The polar opposite of what they promised. Now the call to flounce out of the ECHR. By the same people. Telling the same lies. Has the country been kicked in the head by a horse?

Macron remarks are notable- some quotes: "We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks that are controlled either by large American entrepreneurs or large Chinese companies, whose interests are not at all the survival or proper functioning of our democracies."
President Macron: “Europeans, let's wake up!

We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks.”

“Farage “broke Britain" with Brexit and is now, outrageously, capitalising on the vast damage he caused”

Article argues there’s no need to mention Reform’s racism as the Brexit shitshow is failure enough.
But that had its roots in racism too. So let’s do both.

“This is not harmless; it is a distortion of democracy by endlessly platforming Farage and granting him spectacle status. The press has manufactured legitimacy for a man and a party that has done almost nothing to earn it.”
"This indulgence is reckless

If Labour or the Conservatives gave oxygen to such conspiracies, the media would be merciless. When Farage and friends do it, it is filed under “colour” – part of the spectacle."
The Farage ‘mirage’: how the media is warping our politics
It is time that the media fulfils its role to critically examine politician’s statements and call them out when they stray from the truth

Today I asked my neighbour to stop calling me Becky and to use Becca or Rebecca. We’ll see if she remembers or not!

This happens quite regularly, and I wonder why people do this? I have introduced myself as Rebecca at work events and the other person has immediately switched to Becky.
