My teen, who had dreamt of being an astrophysicist, just told me he wants to go to law school because, “Science isn’t going to be a priority in the US in the future…I don’t want a job where I’ll be constantly worried my funding will be taken away.”

Gutting. How many future scientists have we lost?

This is absolutely true! The human rights was implemented in UK law in 1998. A total of 50 years after the universal Declaration of Human Rights was passed as a commitment in the United Nations, and 41 years after the European Convention on Human Rights.

Within 4 years UK Gov will have destroyed it
There is an old, and fairly accurate, line in politics that you should never pass laws and policies which you would not want a future government to be able to use against you. Could someone remind Labour of it please?
It is far harder to roll back a removal of rights than implement it.

Energy transitions can happen faster than we think:

In 2000 almost 90% of Denmark's electricity was from fossil fuels.

In 2024 less than 10% of Danish electricity was from fossil fuels.

Scaling 3D Printing for Sustainability.

Circular 3D printing is starting to gather momentum.

And circular microeconomies can be at the heart of it. 👇

Scaling 3D Printing for Sustainability
3D printing has transformed the way we think about manufacturing. What was once the domain of large, capital-intensive factories is now open to anyone with a printer and a design.

We had an interesting discussion about the raw material sources of our 100% recycled stationery range.

Any idea what these were beforehand?

🚨NEW from me: more than 1,000 ad agencies have called on the British government to do for the fossil fuel industry what it did for tobacco: end all advertising of their products. From @cleancreatives.bsky.social and more.

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

Great science can be improved with just a touch of social science thinking like ‘how will people feel like swallowing something we are marketing as Poo Pills?’

Tackling the #plasticpollution problem needs creative, transformative and system change solutions.

For example, dealing with ruined plastic bags by transforming them into mouse mats (available in our shop)

Thank you @lner.co.uk for being brilliant partners.

And matching it to create a barrier is the wrong approach. It doesn't work.
Anti-trans political rhetoric and policies is spreading, and that includes Labour. It doesn't protect anyone. It embeds bigoted and misogynistic ideas, and causes division and hostility. The only people anti-trans ideology benefits in the end is the far right.

Pure nationalisation is a mistake!

A 2 part 🧵
Seems fitting that the newly nationalised railway would start with a bus.

So, no cheaper, no fewer delays, no real change for passengers...oh yeah, this is going to go brilliantly.

You may have heard of the political compass.

Overlaying political ideology on the compass makes for some interesting reading.

Do you agree with everything on it? Not sure I do.

Immigrants are Scotland: your NHS nurses, your kids’ teachers, your next door neighbours.

This ‘island of strangers’ rhetoric is dangerous and dehumanising. A stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet—and Scotland is better off because of immigrants.
