This post is the first in a series of posts that's going to cover the most "basic" health metrics. Metrics you should understand properly if you're going to use them to help you reach your goals.

But... Do we really know what our goals are in tracking this data? Do we know what the data is? Why it's being measured? How that measurement can be used? Or even how accurate that measurement is?

Whether it be distrust in traditional medical systems, desire to be in control of your destiny, an optimisation obsession, a lingering feeling of guilt that you "should be doing the healthy thing", or curiosity about your body... More people than ever are using tech to track their health data.

We hear it a lot nowadays, "be the CEO of your own health", "take your health into your own hands"… etc.

You may buy something "in case it's needed" or because "it seems like it might be important". Even worse, "because it'll last longer so you don't have to deal with all the confusion again" (spoiler: it probably won't).

It's not surprising when you look at the tech consumer landscape.

For someone who's a tech minimalist, newer to the tech landscape or "doesn't engage in the latest technology as much"... Each new iteration of devices comes with its own textbook of gibberish selling it.

Technology has a way of seducing us to spend huge amounts of money, that we'd never throw at anything else, for "upgrades", "features", "cutting-edge innovations" and "insights" that we may not even understand... Never mind use. 🧵
