I just found this. Thank you @pointlessexercise.com for the writeup, but especially the part at the end that I've highlighted here. That's the subtext of what I discussed with Dan and Matt: that everyone needs to think a bit more about how we get our information.

After just one day, this is one of @danbernstein.bsky.social's most watched episodes! #5 overall, #4 not counting his intro.
The feedback has been really cool. Glad more people are talking about how journalism works. Bear Down!

I love this illustration from Todd Pendleton in this USA Today story by Mike Freeman. Such a fascinating QB era we're in, where you've got this widely presumed Big 4...
...and then the guy who is reigning SB MVP, with a 52-23 career record, regular + playoffs.

I'm reminded of my interview with the great Ben Joravsky. Ben and Mick Dumke were working on a story where the breakthrough was simply reading the budget. Mick's line speaks to much of @pablo.show's work: “Great investigative journalism! I read the budget.”

Assuming no change, 2025 will be the first season where a division has four Black starting QBs for Week 1: NFC East. That is due to Russell Wilson joining the Giants. He will be the first Black QB to start Week 1 for NYG, the final franchise to check that box.

Another new datapoint for this year's story: 2024 was the first year where Black QBs started the majority of playoff games, with 16 of 26 starts. In 2015, Black QBs started 18.2% of NFL games, regular/playoffs combined. In 2024, that number was 44.2%.

same year
looking at these stills, my "same year" theme is suddenly more impressive, yet seemingly less impressive, because he looks so similar in these three movies (Lebowski, Patch Adams, Happiness). yet each character is completely different.

In 2016, after his above interview, Antwaan Randle El talked about educating youth about the dangers of football. Three years later, he was in the NFL as a coach. Maybe he has told his story, but I would love to know what brings him back year after year.

There is a great story to be told on the Bears beat this year about the unescapable allure of football. Bears asst. HC Antwaan Randle El has already brought so much passion and intensity and joy to the coaching staff, yet he also just 10 years ago said he wouldn't play football if he had a do-over.
