Some activities may be such an irrational object of disfavor that, if they are targeted, and if they also happen to be engaged in exclusively or predominantly by a particular class of people, an intent to disfavor that class can readily be presumed. A tax on wearing yarmulkes is a tax on Jews.

With new capabilities come new dangers. The safety team finds that if Agent-2 somehow escaped from the company and wanted to “survive” and “replicate” autonomously, it might be able to do so. That is, it could autonomously develop and execute plans to hack into AI servers, install copies of itself, evade detection, and use that secure base to pursue whatever other goals it might have (though how effectively it would do so as weeks roll by is unknown and in doubt). These results only show that the model has the capability to do these tasks, not whether it would “want” to do this. Still, it’s unsettling even to know this is possible.

Michael Schur: It's very funny, they say one thing on their investor calls and then a very different thing to us when we're in the negotiating room. On their investor calls, it's all rosy. We're going to make so much money. We're going to be profitable very soon. We're going to make X billions of dollars over the next Y years. And then when they get in room with uS, they're like, "Guys, you've picked a really bad time to ask for a raise." We are like, we read the notes of your call. We know how much money you're projecting, Yes right when you are negotiating a union contract you turn your pockets inside out and say "we're broke, you gotta take a pay cut,"' and then when you have an investor day you pull sacks of gold out of your pockets and say "we`re so rich it's great." It's just that the union can hear you, and the shareholders are litigious.

However, if I had to speculate, I’d say that the reason libertarians are mostly men is that men are not as good as women at logical reasoning. This is not to say all men are not as good at logical reasoning as all women. It’s just to say that the logical-reasoning bell curve for men is to the left of the logical-reasoning bell curve for women. This means that there simply are more men in the bottom 10% of ability to logically reason, which accounts for their overrepresentation in libertarianism, a philosophy that is internally incoherent and operates mainly through tautology and begging the question on entitlement.

Reminded of this snippet from the excellent Money Stuff article on Celsius.
I insist that if you put your money in Celsius then you did not "understand crypto better than anyone"! The very most important thing to understand in finance and economics is that when a person says "either the bank is lying or I am lying," you must not give him your money! If you spend your time learning cryptography and working through blockchain consensus mechanisms and comparing yields of different DeFi projects, and then some guy is like "hand over your money to me and I promise I'll give it back with 18% interest, no risk, economic freedom!" and you believe him, then you wasted your time understanding all the other stuff. All financial complexity is a footnote to "don't hand all your money to some random guy promising high returns." Though it will save you time now to understand that if you handed him your money and he lost iit and went bankrupt, the bankruptcy court is not going to magically give you back your money. The money is gone! The judge doesn't have it! It's not the judge's fault! What you have is a bankruptcy claim! That's what happens when you trust random guys with your money! They lose it!

To be sure, ByteDance’s failure to divest TikTok by the congressionally mandated deadline might inci- dentally affect the reach of petitioners’ speech by re- sulting in the impairment or disabling of the TikTok platform in the United States. But that consequence would properly be attributable to ByteDance’s refusal to divest or to allow TikTok’s independent use of the al- gorithm in the United States—and instead to insist that the algorithm remain controlled by a foreign adversary.
