increasingly convinced preventing americans from getting their little packages is the thing that will take this government down
How bad are tariffs going?

I paid for $32 of shaving cream from Canada. Unique stuff I’ve used for years, nothing like it in US. Small family business.

UPS guy came to my door today with box and said I have to pay additional $120 before he can hand it to me.

That makes it 5x more expensive!!! 🤯

I suspect talks about other ways for groups of states to do things without paying attention to the Feds are quietly going on.

Firing on Fort Sumter isn't always necessary for things to happen.
IT'S OFFICIAL: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York State, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and New York City have formed the Northeast Public Health Collaborative.

The collaborative will issue their own vaccine recommendations and coordinate public health efforts.

I post a piece of good news every day (climate, civil rights, disease eradication, science, sanitation, conservation) because, to keep our activism & resistance going, we need reminders that, when we try hard, we do succeed. They *want* doomerism; Despair is how we lose. #ShareGoodNewsToo

I can't imagine how confused a kid would be if you tried to sit then down to explain that a rightwing politics podcaster was shot in the middle of attacking trans people and POC and it's OK to feel sad and confused about that
In hardly any time at all, footage of the horrifying moment when a bullet hit conservative activist Charlie Kirk ricocheted across the internet. Here are some pointers on how to talk to your kids about what’s going on.
Kids and current events: How to help them deal with what they see around them

Health insurance premiums are about to spike up to 18%—the biggest jump in 15 years. Insurers blame Trump’s tariffs and other classic Trumponomics.

The largest SNAP cuts in history went into effect yesterday, eliminating or drastically cutting food assistance for millions of Americans.

And it’s all to pay for more tax cuts that primarily benefit the super-rich.

Trickle-down economics isn't just a hoax — it's cruel.

What if trust fund kids paid for childcare for every kid in America? That’s the LEGACY Act.

Congresswoman Sara Jacobs wants to double the estate tax on fortunes over $15M to fund universal childcare.

If Gen Z really wants to dunk on millennials, they should learn about Foursquare and go around saying stuff like, "I hear you're the mayor of this Panera Bread."

This is a first for me: an actual, honest to cod COVID memorial in the park by my parents' house.

imo the left really needs to put a lot more effort into organizing veterans, especially now. they aren’t a political monolith, and a lot of them are getting screwed over right now.

Costco, which has come out saying it supports DEI, will make no changes to its existing programs, AND pays workers a minimum of $30/hour, is up 15% YTD.

Target, which announced it is ending all DEI programs and has a minimum wage of $15-$24/hour, is down over 4%.

Keep voting with your wallet.

Hell yeah. Hold the line. This is what we need people to do.

Slow things down, don’t comply in advance so the courts have time to stop them. It’s starting to work.
Received a letter from POTUS today purporting to remove me as Commissioner and Chair of the FEC. There's a legal way to replace FEC commissioners-this isn't it. I've been so fortunate to serve the American people and stir up some good trouble along the way. That's not changing anytime soon.

“Disabled people have sacrificed so much over last 4 years. Every day another tool is taken away, accessibility reduced & our agency stripped back. We are constantly told we don’t deserve to survive”

My article from May on mask bans & eugenics.

Disabled people are begging you to listen:
We Are Witnessing Real Time Eugenics... and People Don't Seem to Care.
Mask bans and revocation of medical exemptions have been all over social media this week - and anti-maskers are reacting with glee. They are celebrating disabled people losing a tool for protection.

For years high risk individuals have been told to “just stay home” when they’ve lobbied for better COVID mitigations.

Now Trump’s attack on DEIA policies will literally send them home as he calls for people hired under accessibility programs to be put on leave & then terminated:
Trump's crackdown on DEIA programs within the federal government is underway
Federal agencies had a Wednesday deadline to place employees of DEIA offices on paid leave -- and to take down any of mention of DEIA programs and initiatives from agency websites and social media.

Been thinking about this a lot (not tagging the sender, for their privacy). Most of us won't have the chance for for grand, capital-R Resistance heroics. But every one of us will have a thousand small choices to make about how to live our lives and where to draw lines. Use them well.

I keep seeing discussions of federal DEI cuts that leave out the fact they’re also cutting employees from the Accessibility departments.

As I’ve said multiple times, disabled people are the canaries in the coal mine. We should be listened to & incorporated into plans for the good of all people
Disabled People are the Canaries in the Coal Mine
When it comes to natural disasters, pandemics, or disruptions to "normal" life, disabled people are proverbial canaries. We get hit harder and faster than others. Why aren't we factored into plans?
