The missus and I have taken the kids out to celebrate BYODCP (buy your own darn Christmas presents). They've each got a budget and they have to wrap their haul as soon as we get home. I kind of feel like a genius right now. Not gonna lie.

High on the list of "things I love about my family" is the fact that random strangers are always welcome at holidays and gatherings. Zero questions asked, no awkward permission-seeking required. If you find someone that's alone for Thanksgiving and wants to borrow the family, it's already done.

No, eBay. It didn't "get away," it sold for well over my valuation and I wasn't about to chase the thing. Patience is a buyer's best weapon. But hey, good for the seller. A nice treat for them.

#MushroomMonday in #Cascadia? Here are some new friends I've made the past week.
Amanita muscaria, a large red cap with cream-colored dapples over a creamy stalk. Found at the base of a fir tree on the northern Oregon coast. Stropharia ambigua (I think), Flattened cream-colored cap on a long stalk, standing alone amid ferns and strata in a northern Oregon coastal forest. Unidentified! But it was pretty cool looking. A dark, rounded cap over a woody stalk. Found in a yard in the Portland, OR area. I didn't disturb it to view the gills, so I had a hard time getting a match. Conocybe tenera, small white pointed-cap fruits on slender stalks, growing from bark mulch in a yard in Vancouver, WA.

TIL that #Washington State has an official tartan. The green is for the lush forests, blue for the waters, white for snowy mountaintops, red for fruits, yellow for grains, and black for the threat of ashy death rained down upon an unsuspecting populous by our volcanoes.
