Thank you Malta Book Festival for bringing one of my literary heroes @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social for a fascinating and wide-ranging convo. He talked about the biodiversity in Florida, shared tips for writing about impossible things, and spilled the tea re: the Annihilation movie #SouthernReach 📚

If I lived in Mdina I would simply spend all my nights sweeping through its alleys in a floor-length cape like a goddamn Anne Rice vampire

It is the greatest marketing failure of recent memory that this can of Pringles isn’t mushroom flavored

Name a more perfect geometric form than a cat curled up into a perfect little ball with its paw covering its face. I’ll wait.

I don’t speak Korean, but I’m pretty sure this awesome-looking arcade game involves kicking a slipper off your foot and trying to have it land as close to the bullseye as possible

Saw this spider the size of my whole palm in an underpass today. While I was busy taking pics of it, my partner was shouting, “Get away from that thing. It’s a huntsman spider, it’s venomous, and it JUMPS.”

TIL that pandas pee by going into a handstand, and never have I felt more failed by the educational system.

I think pandas are the ultimate hustlers. They are all “we’re so clumsy we fall over just sitting so please take care of us” but can do a handstand every time they need to pee? Not buying it.

I understand the intent behind this brand’s name, but I still think it’s unfortunate

Finally this decorative plate for $20. Again, not sure if you can actually serve food on it.

WTF is up with this racist-ass ad? I know JE is a real disease, but did they really have to frame it like “Going to Asia could kill you”? You don’t see us making ads like “Going to the US could kill you. They give guns to anyone there.”

Also I don’t think that yellow background is accidental

You know what, sure, I'll jump on the bandwagon

I don't know how I feel about being an "elder," though. I'm now at the age where if I report a new symptom to my doctors, they go, "Well, let's check it out just in case."

Friends, in conjunction with The Ruby, many writers better than I (and I) are trying to get a family out of Gaza. Please share widely and bid. Thank you💛
