I’d expect Elden Ring to play somewhat similarly. Is it because Elden Ring has a grittier art style so people assume it’s supposed to be harder/more serious? if art style does play a role, should it? Just thoughts, I dont really know if there is anything to this line of thinking.

has people saying it’s too hard and that its art style gets people who aren’t into hard games to try it and give up. Don’t get me wrong, Silksong does have some flaws and unreasonable walk-backs, but I’ve been playing Bloodborne and the games feel very similar (bloodborne feels harder to me) so -

You can use 'furry' stat blocks for non-furry characters. You can use an elf as a base for a boar if it makes sense in the moment. Do whatever you want, live with joy and appreciate the gifts you have been given. Not everyone has time to balance a new species and you might not have to.

Maybe I want a small tiger, a hummingbird, or sentient ooze. Maybe there is already a species that works, or maybe not. When you boil down a species to its core characteristics they're useful starting points in different ways.
