Also lovely shout out to AF! AF really has managed to create that wonderful art community feel. It bridges different skill lvls, rewards experimentation, & encourages positive interactions between artists of different types. Its a really beautiful event!

Another great pt in the article is that socmed over time HAS de-incentivized providing source credit on stuff. This has encouraged a culture of dubious provenance. Content creators cannot build community in systems which only consume & dont reciprocate. Its eroded things beyond just art communities.

This same problem is happening in industry too! Entry level jobs are being replaced w/underpaid overseas workers, robot slop, or are being lumped in w/job creep, removing positions entirely. None of these are sustainable in the long run! None of these build new talent from the bottom up.

My favorite point is the realization that if a venue (for lack of a better word) isnt uplifting novice artists, its not building a foundation for community & thats why every other site has just been a portfolio showcase or throwing spaghetti at a wall --none of them manage to have/build community.
