The bridge has a central section that used to be raised and lowered to accommodate taller river traffic.

A handful of ducks that were hiding behind this rock and surprised me as I looked out across the lake. Looks like a couple of mallards. I can’t identify the rest. On another calm day under mostly cloudy skies and some very nice fall colors in the trees , all reflecting on the water 🖖💚☮️

fungus in mulch
A rather large mushroom, almost 6 inches tall and at least a couple inches across the cap. It’s almost clear but has a strange translucent blue tint to it. Sitting on a big pile left behind by a wood chipper with dozens of much smaller fungus buddies a few feet away

I think this is the first recorded version of this song (Les Feuilles mortes/ Autumn Leaves). The picture is of dead leaves that have turned golden brown before they hit the ground, most of them from a Bigleaf maple The song might be one of the most covered that I know of, I do think that it sounds best to me when sung in french, the harmonica cuts me to the quick 🩶

Heal-all still out here blooming today, not even an inch tall and feels like they were the first color I saw in the spring. Center petals are tan with brown around the edges and there are two purple petals on either side of the center. Surrounded by light green leaves with a bit of water and fir needles scattered around 💚☮️

headed west
As the rainy season continues, the rising river floats deadwood that has dropped along the banks and relocates it downriver. This fallen tree in the middle of the river has been visible upstream since August and moved several hundred feet closer recently. The remains of the roots are visible as most of the tree is underwater. Some dampened fall colors remain on the opposite bank, under rain-filled clouds reflecting white off the water in the river that is flowing to the west

a tell-tale heart
A smaller Japanese maple tree that when viewed from the right perspective resembles a heart. A bit more weather beaten over the last year, but still beautiful purple color. Grass underneath in front with lots of cedar needles on the ground behind it
