It's #WIPWednesday my dudes, and *finally* had the energy to hang in the writer's club I've been adjacent to for like two years, so have a tiny bit of the FTH studcomm thing I'm working on 😘
Steban fell silent. A deep, rich flush had slowly crept up from underneath his undone collar until it covered his cheeks and the bridge of his nose, making his skin a darker shade of brown. Ulixes couldn't tear his eyes from it. If he reached out right now and touched it, would the flush be warmer than the surrounding skin? Steban was always complimenting Ulixes' nimble fingers, the way he had with assembling miniatures or building towers, how careful he was at mending a book... joking about how obviously he would be the better of them to service a weapon, should the need arise. Surely it would be an easy thing to discern the change in temperature with only the lightest of touches- Steban cleared his throat. "Should I... go on?" Ulixes blinked. For some reason he was sitting leaned forward, one hand half raised. He quickly sat back and waved the offending hand nonchalantly. "Yes! I mean- yes. Please go on. This is very, this is very eye-opening." Steban nodded and shuffled through the papers. "This one... I think it's the response from Dobreva."

It's #WIPWednesday again my dudes, and I've been neglecting it a bit! But here's a little bit of the Sex Worker Harry WIP.
Harry tapped his foot nervously as he waited. Luckily, it wasn't long. Within a few minutes, he could see the now-familiar silhouette coming down one of the many walkways. CONCEPTUALISATION - Not entirely familiar. He's changed his jacket. Same style, but orange, with patches. Harry got a good look at him as he approached. Same sturdy boots, same trousers. The jacket did indeed have the familiar halogen watermarks that he remembered from his uniform. Some little forgotten touch-memory sparked up, providing the feeling of them under his fingers. They had a strange texture, a bit of a mix between plastic and textile. Up a bit - his hair was less tousled than yesterday, not styled - slicked back instead, kept firmly in place. And then there was those driving gloves. One of them was rolled down, the other not. Harry had a sudden, insistent need to fold it down, or the other up, just to make him symmetrical. VOLITION - Yes, yes, it would be immensely satisfying, but no. We're not touching the unfamiliar cop without permission. "Monsieur Du Bois," he said with a short nod. "Thank you for coming. Let's take this in my cubicle, shall we?" "No interrogation room?" The lieutenant gave him a little glance. "Would you prefer that? I'm sure I can see if one is available, if you-" "Joke."

It's another #WIPWednesday my dudes! More Balance act and Harry being a sadsack in the bath 🛀
Warm water didn't help with his mood. He had to agree that it helped with the cold, though. He hadn't actually realised how bone-chilled he really was. Even just standing under the spray was too warm. In the end he sat down on the bottom of the tub, drew the curtain and let the shower create a warm, moist little cave that warmed him up slowly until he could stand to lay down in the water. ELECTROCHEMISTRY - Bubble bath, bubble bath, bubble bath! LOGIC - We are trying to prevent hypothermia here, it's not necessary to- ELECTROCHEMISTRY - Can't hear you over the sound of pouring, Puzzle Face! Bubble bath! Harry sighed and added a few spoonfuls of cheap bubbles to the rising water, then lay back and rested his head against the rim. He let the water rise until all he could see was his knees and the top of his belly peeking out from among the bubbles, then turned the tap. His fingers were tingling. Not unpleasantly, but a reminder that he really should be starting to bring a pair of gloves to work now. Winter would come soon. He swished aimlessly through the bubbles, making little waves that splashed against his flanks. HALF LIGHT - Are you sure everything's all right? No frostbite? All peripherals accounted for? He gingerly flexed his right foot. Toes, great. Fingers, fine. Nose, big and broken as always. Dick, all in one piece. He gave it a few half-hearted tugs, but he was too warm and too tired for it to react in any other way than float like a weird anemone. Time for woollen underwear too, probably. Unfortunately. The RCM issue ones itched like hell and didn't fit under his trousers anyway. He rubbed morosely at his belly, trying not to think too much about clothes that didn't fit like they used to.

It's #WIPWednesday my dudes and I'm tired. But! A little writing has been done! But it's secret 😘 So have a bit more of the Sex Worker Harry project.
HALF LIGHT - Fucking hell, it's Patrice. The fact that she was short and skinny had little to do with it. The amount of metal concealed under her clothes was far more than the sum of it dangling from her ear and nose and the studs in her jacket. Harry tried to make himself as small as possible. Meeting Patrice was never good news, especially not when he was on his way to meet with law enforcement. AUTHORITY - No, no. Nonono. She's not bullying you again! LOGIC - She has Monica's power at her back. She'll bully us precisely as much as she wants to, and there's nothing we can do about it unless we want to be kicked out of the guild. Patrice swung her way through the car using the straps for leverage, looking more than usual like an ape, if an ape had half its head shaved and was decked out in a jacket that was more pale metal patches than fabric. Harry backed all the way into a corner as she approached. The couple occupying the other seats gave the approaching guild enforcer a quick glance and fled. Patrice launched herself using the last pair of straps and flopped down on the seat beside Harry. "Harry, baby," she said in that hoarse voice of hers. "How's things?" "Doing okay, doing fine, you know, a fair few clients..." She grinned at him, wide and predatory. "Great, great. So you have cash for dues, then? If you're doing so good?"

#WIPWednesday is upon us! Mostly I'm working on gifts right now, but the Kim/Harry/Lilienne fic is still chugging along in the background. It's called Balance act! Here Kim and Harry are talking about doing something for Harry's soberversary.
"Yeah. Sure, yeah, um. What d'you have in mind?" "I was thinking a movie," Kim said, suddenly a bit hesitant. "At, ah... at Palaise?" EMPATHY - He's not meeting your eyes. ENCYCLOPEDIA - Palaise is one of the oldest movie theaters in Jamrock. And, interestingly enough, known for midnight screenings of movies of the raunchier kind. ELECTROCHEMISTRY - Not only the raunchier kind. The forbidden kind. At least up until recently. SHIVERS - Most nights, the searchlights of the Coalition airships sweep through the smog, creating pillars of light that seem almost tangible. But nights when Palaise is open there are pillars that reach towards the heavens instead, all the way up until they reflect on the underside of the clouds, staining them pink and purple. The soft chatter of voices. The splash of feet in rain puddles, creating mingled rainbows of oil and reflected light. Fur and leather and brightly painted faces - a little world made of paper and lace, plastic and sheer determination. A glittering soap bubble always on the verge of popping... but never quite.

It's still #wipwednesday for another 15 minutes! Have a little snippet of a fic I've been playing with, an AU where Harry is a sex worker getting pulled into a case by RCM officer Kim.
The guy stood and waited awkwardly while Harry picked around the flat, trying to lay the scene. Always good to have few things laying around so they could be tidied up. Give the whole thing a bit of a domestic vibe to work from. After straightening a few books that honestly needed the attention, Harry turned and looked him over. He was standing ramrod straight, hands behind his back, trying to look everywhere but at Harry. So. Either supremely nervous, or a talker. "So what's your name, handsome?" He rallied, finally placing his eyes on Harry. "It's, ah. John. John Shao." DRAMA - John. Really. He's going with John? He couldn't, maybe, choose anything else? No? John. Harry had years of not reacting to false names, even if they were this bad. "Alright, John." He sat back on the bed, leaned back as casually as possible, one leg over the other. "So. What you into, babe?"

It's #WIPWednesday my dudes! Let's have another little snippet of the OT3 Kim/Harry/Lilienne fic I got simmering in the background.
It took only a few minutes before she came down, but it felt like hours. Harry shifted nervously from foot to foot, trying to ignore the old man glaring at him from one of the balconies above. He adjusted the collar of his navy coat against the perpetual drizzle. Wearing it had seem like the natural choice, if nothing else because he'd worn it on their first date - no, fuck, only date, date singular. He pulled the collar so tight the edges strained against his neck. Not a date. SUGGESTION - You should try and think of something good to say to her when she comes down. Something suave, something impressive - something about how good she looks, or perhaps an intelligent remark about the weather and its impact on her chosen profession- The door opened with a screech high enough to set his high-strung nerves twanging. Every half-formed idea immediately scattered, dispersing into his synapses like so many terrified mice in the face of Lilienne stepping out on the front step. "Huh- hah, hi," he managed. SUGGESTION - ... lovely.

It's #WIPWednesday my dudes, and I got help remembering! So have some #discoelysium, a little snippet of Kim interacting with some Skills in the Jäger.
Kim clenched his hands inside the gloves, transferring a small amount of neural and kinetic energy into the greater system of the Jäger. Stride by stride, the vague pattering of rain mixed with snow, the slight resistance of the water against the hull... He looked over at Harry. There was a huge smile on his face, young and boyish, more open and relaxed than he'd seen him since- Since last time. Yes. He twisted his hand again, keeping the balance for another stride. Despite it all, this - here - this was where they belonged. Something shuffled behind them. The one he'd begun to think of as the watchful one, the angry one, the one that was always poised on the edge of fight or flight - it skittered all the way up to the tempered glass of the observation window and looked out, flayed fingers pressed up against it, apelike face sniffing nervously. HALF LIGHT - There's something... there's something out there. I can feel it, there's a presence- PERCEPTION - The surface is moving. See? Kim couldn't contain the surge of excitement. He'd come to like this one, with its long fingers wrapped around the back of both their heads, gently directing their sight toward the horizon. Seeing through Harry's eyes, the way he could see it so clearly... PERCEPTION - You're welcome.

It is #WIPwednesday my dudes and since my brain has been mush today you get a little original writing. There's a novel in here somewhere that's also a recurring dream location of mine.
There's a floodplain that lies beyond the mountains, quite close to the oak forests. There's a city there. You know the place. You've been there, in your dreams. You've walked along the streets, seen those buildings, ancient and new. You've passed those shops, those cemeteries, those libraries and warehouses and places of worship. When you woke up it was all gone, except for flashes - the factory. The castle. The candy shop. The dusty attic. Those stayed with you, perhaps for a lifetime, perhaps just until your morning coffee. But entirely apart from you, there's still a city.

A sudden downpour made Harry duck in under a half-collapsed awning, patrol cloak hunched over his shoulders. Not for the first time he wondered why no-one ever thought to make them with an attached hood. For safety, maybe? Less to grab onto, to make sure there was no loss in wide-angle visuals? Or because it would have interrupted the sleek lines of the cloak, making the silhouette less cool. Knowing the RCM both were as likely. He shook the water off the heavy tarpaulin with a little shiver. It wasn't weird weather for the year, but it was intense; and as usual the weather service hadn't managed to warn for it. Not that it ever did. He glanced upwards and tried to gauge the severity of it. Dark clouds hung fat and gray like aerostatic balloons, their edges almost black. There was a sudden, violent flash. "One thousand one," he muttered under his breath. "One thousand two, one thousand three-" Kra-ka-koom! The thunder rolled slowly over the delta until it dissipated in little barely audible aftershocks. VISUAL CALCULUS - Approximately 343 m/s times three, give or take a few meters due to the humidity, give or take the inaccuracies... about a kilometer away, sir. And fast approaching judging from the wind direction. HALF LIGHT - Ooooh, shit... that one hit something for sure. Good thing it's coming down so hard.
