lol i just found there's an interpretation that charles is a supernatural being only laurie can see yeah the family being a lil subconsciously racist is not a reach
yeah, if the family was black it would've been made a focal point in the story since a black child misbehaving in kindergarten vs a white child misbehaving in kindergarten in 50s suburban america are Very Different Stories to tell
and there isn't anything specifying the family's skin color, but class is obvious and my point would still stand if this family was black which likely isn't or else it would've been made explicitly clear in the context this was written
