Arctic tundra ecosystems under fire—Alternative ecosystem states in a changing climate?
Climate change is altering the Arctic tundra, with fires driving vegetation shifts. We hypothesise that post-fire recovery, shaped by climate change, may not return to pre-fire conditions, leading to...

With more and more Arctic plant folks joining 🌱❄️, what better excuse to drop this starter pack again? 🔁💎 If you want to join in, just give me a shout!
I've put together this Starter Pack because I still miss connecting with many Arctic colleagues on this platform. Apologies if I missed adding some of you, but you're all welcome to join!

Great fun indeed to win our institute´s volleyball tournament with the migration ecology team including @ramonaheim.bsky.social 🤩
We are happy to announce to have won this year´s volleyball tournament of the institute of biology and environmental sciences. Great team, great fun. And the trophy is a bird (Avocet) - fitting very well to our group 😊

🌸Plant diversity dynamics over space and time in a warming Arctic 🌸

Our new study @nature.com analysed plant diversity change in >2000 tundra plots over 4 decades. We found that plants changed unevenly, mostly driven by warming and biotic interactions.

First circumpolar maps of aboveground tundra biomass at 30 m resolution 💪 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

These new estimates show that in total tundra plants (above-and belowground) store around 8 Pg C while the upper 30 cm soils store ca 53 Pg C.
Next generation Arctic vegetation maps: Aboveground plant biomass and woody dominance mapped at 30 m resolution across the tundra biome
The Arctic is warming faster than anywhere else on Earth, placing tundra ecosystems at the forefront of global climate change. Plant biomass is a fund…
