In light of the Trump/Musk circus, let me remind you of your favourite Romanian language fact:

When someone throws stupid tantrums hurting their own interests just for the sake of being an ahole, we say they hit their own testicles with an adze (carpentry tool). The Romanian word for adze is Tesla.

UPDATE: Another Chicago-area church has put up an immigration-themed Nativity scene.

A church member at Urban Village Church sent this one along, where Mary, Joseph and Jesus are gone and replaced with a sign that reads: “Due to ICE activity in our community, the Holy Family is in hiding.”

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.

Some really cool science here
1. Some good news at last. This week’s column is about the amazing thing a couple of us stumbled into three years ago, which we’ve now developed into a global research programme. It doesn’t change everything, of course, but it could help change quite a lot. + 🧵 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
Over a pint in Oxford, we may have stumbled upon the holy grail of agriculture | George Monbiot
I knew that a revolution in our understanding of soil could change the world. Then came a eureka moment – and the birth of the Earth Rover Program, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

People who did vote Labour, who might vote Labour and who won't vote Labour by views of immigration

Potential Labour considerers are a bit more liberal than Labour 2024 voters: lost ethnic minority and younger voters in 2024

The toughest group are hostile to Labour

Bigot argued: unfair to sacrifice privacy of women, 20% of workforce, for 5 trans staff members, 0.5 % of the workforce.

Judge pointed out: only 1 person had raised a complaint - 0.05% of female workforce.

As a cis woman, this is SO IMPORTANT to me. Don't you dare assume my views just bc I'm cis.

The Sweetie remarked that our two armchairs perfectly sum up our taste in home decor.

(If you're curious - his is from Debenhams and it reclines, mine is a Poang from IKEA, with the cover swapped - from Kilimikea on Etsy.)

Yep, I relate
keep meaning to write about this but god if this isn't me - feel like people maybe assume that being bilingual means thinking in a mix of words but my god it's so much worse than that, I conjugate French verbs in English, I feminise/masculinise English nouns, it's a MESS up here
My partner's language with siblings is second generation family Italian via Malta with English accents. Lots of English verbs can be made Italian if you add semi-appripriate suffixes, it turns out

Trying to breastfeed baby because it's been 4 hours since her last feed, but she'd rather sleep on my chest. Since today is also Romania's National Day, the Sweetie decided to play to her the Romanian national anthem, which fittingly says "Awaken, Romanian!"

Hah!
Holy shit. So Elon decides it would be nice to know what region of the world people are posting from. So they add that little feature.
2 hours later they figure out that many Trump supporters with millions of followers are posting from other countries. Surprise!
That "feature" is now gone.

That sounds dangerously like that episode of The Thick of It where they do a focus group of one person who turns out to be a paid actress.
Morgan McSweeney (UK Labour's Dominic Cummings knock-off) is reportedly experimenting with 'synthetic voters' – "essentially fake focus groups of AI voters who can tell ministers more quickly and cheaply what the public thinks of policies" www.spectator.co.uk/article/can-...

Hah, unsurprising.
A few weeks ago this Reform rising star went on LBC & said young people were being paid too much, citing his experience in hospitality.

So we looked into his companies & found 3 tribunal judgments for failure to pay wages, holiday pay & provide contracts

I'm trying not to swear on social media, but :

For fuck's sake, when have we decided that refugees fleeing persecution and atrocities aren't allowed a bit of joy?
There is so much messed up about this front page Express story today.

There's no suggestion or evidence ANY alcohol or drugs was consumed. This is literally just people dancing.

And buried in the piece: "The footage is believed to have been filmed just before Labour took power in July last year."
