Produced from 1961 through 1973, the Alpine achieved in 1971 a 1st, 2nd and 4th place in Monte Carlo using cars with engines derived from the Renault R16. In 1973, they made up the top 3, again at Monte Carlo and went on to win the WRC outright, beating Porsche, Lancia and Ford.
