I am a Professor and HM Tory Chair at the University of Alberta, Canada on Treaty 6 territory. I research life writing, gender/sexuality theory, material culture, book history and Canadian literature. I collect fountain pens and love stationery.
It was about speed because you did not lift the pen off the paper as much. It was also about legibility because with dip pens there was more potential to blot when you lifted the pen more. There are some good histories of handwriting that talk about thd history of script.

If they really were good at being businesses, we might have things like equity. But they are just sorta kinda businesses as it turns out.

2 display boxes with drawers from Amazon for the vintage, and 3 cases from Galen Leather for everything else that is a pen. I put my inks and other stationery supplies in 3 drawers of a built in dresser, with Ikea felt dividers. I have paper in a cheapo cart from Ikea

There are so many fantastic inks out there. Diamine has a lot of the same colours so can't go wrong with them.

Because I am Canadian the import duties I have to pay for American retailers make it too expensive to get those pens
