It is deeply upsetting that Simeon Brown has decided to halt the prescribing of certain puberty blocker medicines to trans young people, especially during Trans Awareness Week.
It is deeply upsetting that Simeon Brown has decided to halt the prescribing of certain puberty blocker medicines to trans young people, especially during Trans Awareness Week. We support the expert opinion of the doctors of PATHA - these medicines have been prescribed safely for decades and banning their use will cause real distress in this already vulnerable group. Young people concerned by this announcement, there are still options available to you - there are other medicines which are not affected by this ban. Please discuss this with your doctor.

We are incredibly disappointed that Sports Minister Mark Mitchell has ordered Sport New Zealand Ihi Aotearoa to remove the Guiding Principles for the Inclusion of Transgender People in Community Sport document from their website.

Post reads: New Zealand First’s regular release of transphobic policies is nothing more than a sad attempt to import moral panic from the UK and US, to appeal to an extremist minority and gain media attention. We, like the vast majority* of Kiwis, believe trans people should be protected from discrimination. The PM and Govt MPs need to do more than weakly dismiss these announcements or label them ‘distractions’. Rainbow Wellington condemns death threats to MP Benjamin Doyle.
Rainbow Wellington strongly condemns the death threats and other unacceptable conduct targeting MP Benjamin Doyle and their family. People are entitled to their opinions on what language is acceptable for MPs to use in social media. However, to imply that a rainbow parent is unsafe to their child without any evidence is completely unacceptable. This year has already seen multiple disturbing instances of fringe groups attempting to intimidate the rainbow community. Senior politicians should know better than to legitimise homophobic rhetoric, which has directly incited these threats. Rainbow Wellington calls on all political leaders to condemn this unacceptable behaviour.
