Non-Indigenous people carry the responsibility for the governing structures of Canada, its provinces and municipalities and an obligation to end the colonial violence that continues today.
Each one of us is responsible for dismantling the systems that harm children first.

We have a duty to ensure the care of survivors by acting on the fulfillment of all 94 Calls to Action and ending the continuing violence with the full implementation of the 231 Calls for Justice.

Situated on Treaty 7 Territory, a councillor or mayor has a duty to represent residents as good Treaty partners, honouring the true intent and spirit of Treaty 7, and the responsibility to protect from colonial institutions, the rights of Indigenous peoples to live in freedom, peace and security.

The solution to homelessness is housing.

The solution to addiction is healthcare and culturally appropriate supports.

The solution to crime is ensuring all peoples have their basic needs met.

Many of the victims of these raids are Residential School survivors - the depravity of this violence against survivors is beyond despicable and is an inditement of the character of everyone involved or supportive.

Crime rhetoric weaponized during the recent municipal election is now being used to gain public sympathies for the acts of violence by the police.
November 7, 2025 at 5:57 PM

November 7, 2025 at 5:57 PM
The measured and misleading language from the police Chief including statements such as “Arresting is connecting,” and “Arrests will be made when necessary, but always with dignity and care.”
November 7, 2025 at 5:57 PM
They are not, as police Chief McLellan states “a collaborative and compassionate approach to addressing concerns about disorder and violent crime.”
November 7, 2025 at 5:57 PM
Police sweeps are colonial tactics used to further displace vulnerable people and incarcerate Indigenous peoples to continue the displacement and assimilation tactics of land theft.
November 7, 2025 at 5:57 PM
Shelters and group facilities are not alternatives to housing and culturally appropriate wrap around services; they are places where people are forced to give up loved pets and belongings and are subjected to physical and emotional violence.
November 7, 2025 at 5:57 PM
Targeting, arresting and dismantling desperate survival conditions of the most vulnerable people in the city will do nothing but perpetuate harm and cause further trauma. The loss of belongings, punitive fines and jail terms serve only to put the means of survival further from reach.
November 7, 2025 at 5:57 PM
There can be no confusion that this was an act of deliberate harm and the continued genocide of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples, who as you know disproportionately represent the population of homelessness in Calgary, as a direct result colonial violence.

City of Calgary Mayor and Councillors,

It is with great disappointment that our first communication to the newly formed council of the City of Calgary is to speak to an act of reprehensible violent raids perpetrated by the Calgary Police Service upon the most vulnerable residents.
