Welp, I fell down a depression rabbit hole for a bit, but I dragged myself back out (somewhat) and finally managed to finish stitching the last scallops on the two unfinished corners. I am so pleased by how they turned out, mistakes and all. Now I can finally finish the last small details!

In one corner is a little ghost holding a lantern. This is a nod to an Emily Dickinson line I hand lettered 11 years ago. I had no idea then just how many times over I’d be “out with lanterns looking for myself” but I realize now it’s going to probably happen again at some point.

Anyway, here’s the work in progress. These arcs are called buttonhole scallops and they have decorative knotted picots at the top. The arcs are imperfect but I had so much fun figuring out how to make them work so the corners of my hanky would look pretty. Still need to finish the other two corners!

Ha! And I have none, but I am an appreciator of folk tales and I fell in love with the idea of this particular character several years ago. It simply had to become art! I even made a larger and more intricate piece because I was so enamored of her various appearances in different stories.

It’s been a minute since I’ve stitched any tiny pieces of embroidery and I really wanna get back to it. Baba Yaga’s hut was difficult to stitch at this size but the results were well worth all the cursing I did during the process. 😂

This project was how I ended up meeting @goatpath.bsky.social. It is one of my favorites because a) both the initial illustration and stickers produced from it look amazing and b) this man has turned out to be the love of my life. So a true win win. 😁
