If you're a Rust programmer, your take away from the incident should not be that you should not unwrap, but it should be that you need to have a strategy for handling panicking, and you need to consider that strategy every time you unwrap, and ensure that recovery is properly implemented and tested

I love me a datacenter, just really wish govts wouldn't allow power companies to raise residential prices so much to support them. If infrastructure needs improved solely due to a small number of users, those users need to pay way more for those projects & ongoing costs
Truly there are few things and few industries more efficient than the modern data center and we don’t really accomplish anything by having fewer of them aside from less redundancy (ie more unreliable service) and greater centralization. That this likely uses *more* power and water is unavoidable.

I discovered there's a really nice coworking space 10 minutes down the road from me in the North Side. Going to sign up so that I don't get S.A.D. staying home all winter

Recent Rust Changes
In May last year I wrote a blog post on how Rust had evolved from the 1.0 release to 1.78. I found it really interesting to group all the changes together by topic, rather than seeing the language evo...

anyone else have a very Linux Morning?

my Ubuntu machine decided to boot up in 1024x768 and no second monitor. I checked Software Updater and saw a bunch of Nvidia driver updates. Software Updater of course then crashed and I had to `apt upgrade` from the CLI. Fortunately back to normal now...

I finished Moonbound by Robin Sloan last night. Absolutely loved it. Like a weird modern version of The Wizard of Oz.

Also I just found out that Robin Sloan was a producer on that weird film Epic 2014 from 20 years ago...

The reason EV range (and gas mileage) go down so much when you drive faster is because, when you drive twice as fast, you hit twice as many molecules AND you hit each of those molecules with twice as much force, which means drag increases exponentially.
